That was quite interesting, Tsukasa. Thanks for posting it.

Lemme tackle this...

Bear

Bear's real life last name is 'Sakuma'. I think his first name is either Ryo or Akira. I don't remember it. However... BT calls him 'Kuma-san' for short a lot... and 'Kuma' means 'Bear'.

Subaru

Subaru is named after the Japanese name for the Pleiades. As written in Encyclopedia Mythica:

The Pleiades are the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. They were the virgin companions of Artemis. When Orion, a beautiful hunter, pursued them and their mother, they prayed to the gods for rescue. The gods answered they prayer and they were changed into doves, and later into stars. Zeus placed them in the sky where they formed a part of the constellation of Taurus.
According to another myth, they committed suicide after the death of their sisters the Hyades.

The Pleiads are Alcyone, Electra, Celaeno, Maia, Sterope, Merope and Taygete.

'Subaru' and the corellation to 'Ginkan'

Tied into this is the fact that... if I remember correctly, the name 'Ginkan' (The Japanese name for Silver Knight, if you don't know) happens to use the kanji for 'Milky Way', as in our Galaxy, leading the two to be tied together by the nature of their names (The Pleiades is a constellation in the winter sky, near Orion. Also the location of what I think is one of the most gorgeous nebulae ever is within the Pleiades. ^___^

Quoted from the site I snagged the photo from:

Object number 45 in Messier's catalog is the Pleiades, also know as the Seven Sisters for the seven stars that can be easily seen with excellent eyesight. In Japan, the name for the Pleiades is Subaru, the same as the car manufacturer, and if you look on a Subaru car, you will find the Pleiades star cluster as its emblem or logo.

The Pleiades is a relatively nearby open cluster, which according to new data from the Hipparcos satellite is located at a distance of 370 light years.

The cluster is surrounded by blue nebulosity illuminated by the light reflected from the nearby stars. Often mistaken for the Little Dipper, the Pleiades is one of the most beautiful open clusters in the sky.

Tsukasa

The kanji for Tsukasa is 司.
This means 'Director', 'Official' 'Rule', 'Administrator'. It's... almost an odd name. Written in kanji, it's a masculine name. Written in katakana ( つかさ ), it can be used as a girl's name... at least, that's what I've noticed. Don't set my words in stone on that.

---

That's just a bit of information on those names, though. ^____^ Enjoy. ^^

Dank. Its interesting to see that these names actually had some thought put into them whereas as alot of other anime names are just simple jokes. Especially in DBZ.

btw-Kuma's the bear in Tekken. Good game.

Just curious, how do you write kana and kanji in normal text?

Let's keep this on topic. That's something that can be used in private messages.

Hehe, wow.I just discovered something new....I know this may sound stupid, and I just missed it,but I did not realize that "Ginkan" means "silver knight."Since I first watched the dubs,Subaru kept calling him that instead of Ginkan. It kinda threw me off since, everyone else's name was never changed from the sub at all.But I'm glad that I found that out. Thanks once again.

The Pleides, eh? That makes perfect sense, except that Subaru's logo only has six stars.

Anyway, I don't see why Balmung's name is a mystery to anyone, when it's so clearly explained in LIMINALITY 1.

That's true, YashaOokami. I have nothing against learning and sharing information. It's just that questions like...
Amonestar wrote:did anyone ever notice that Balmung wuz named after a sword?
... are answered if one pays attention to what they're watching (such as LIMINALITY 1 in this case).

If Amonestar was already familiar with Wagner and Norse mythology and figured this out on his/her own, then I'd be impressed. But if I were to say "Did anyone notice that Orca wuz named after a whale?" or "Did anyone notice that Sanjuro wuz named after a Kurosawa movie character?" what kind of response would I get?

what's a kurosawa?? : P
Only in dreams; We see what it means
Reach out our hands; Hold on to hers
But when we wake; It's all been erased
And so it seems; Only in dreams

Heres another intresting pun.
Ever wonder why Orca is called "Orca of the Azure Sea"?
Its because Orca is another term for a killer whale.
Makes sense,dont it?
Check my website out!
P.S-Its not quite done yet :P
