i checked in a chat room on dot hack and they said that sanjuro obtained it in some event as a special upgrade... just a thought?

this might not matter, but i was playng ape escape 2, and the yellow monkey boss(yeah the transexual homo one) has those same markings on its no-no spot cover... just a thought?

It has to be some kind of armor.Some armor for Katana users.Something like that,cause only he has it.

Armor really doesn't have a meaning, though. You could give him eight different sets, but his appearance won't change outside of his sword. No, it seems more like something you can personalize at the beginning, when you make your character. Hair colour/Eye colour/clothing/etc...
