Well, anyone who can't handle a few sad scenes should reconsider watching TV in general (and playing a few RPGs I know of *coughcoughsuikodencough*)
However, I have nothing against a few heartwrenching scenes in anime. I admit, the first 4 times I watched the DDing scene, I did cry a little. Then again, I cried at movies like Dragonheart and at books at time.
What can I say, I'm a sensitive soul >P (Har har har)
As for .hack, no, there really aren't very many scenes that inspire me to feel much other than interest. Towards the end, there are a few that get to me, but for the most part, this isn't a series I found myself emotionally attached to.

Here's the secret o.- Don't quote me, or I'll have to beat someone within an inch of their life, but 'offtopic', to -me-, at any rate, is a post that has nothing at all to do with the original topic or the slightly-branched-off discussion that has spawned from such. You can justify an offtopic post by adding -something- constructive to the discussion at the bottom. The more effort I see in that, the more likely I am to pass it off as on topic.Must be, an Admin brought it up. ::eyeshift::
This also depends on how annoyed I am that day. I can't say the same for the other mods, they may be more or less slack with this than I am, but anyway.
<cue justification for posting> The other aspect of the Maha scene is that it adds a bit of humanity and growth to what was, otherwise, 'just an AI'. This is probably to add more dimensions to someone like Aura, or even Morganna, giving us the idea that just because they're an AI with set programming, it doesn't mean that they can't make their own decisions and, in that way, be human. This deeper aspect of the series is what would make someone feel saddened by something like this.

Yea, they're not just programs, sure they are limited by what they have been programmed to do, but they still have emotions and free will... it's part of the whole "evolution" theme that is the main focus of the .hack series. They have gone beyond what they were supposed to do.

Speaking of making the AIs feel more human ... did anyone else get the feeling that Morgana was kind of one-dimensional as a character? She's just kind of stereotypically evil to me. Same thing goes for Aura. They're both machine-gods who fight each other because they're destined to, something like that. I never really "clicked" with either of them.
For shame to all the cold, cold-hearted people out there! SIGN was *full* of emotion to me! Especially with Tsukasa. I understood a lot of his problems better than some might. Apparently lots of people are more annoyed by him than anything else, which seems kind of unsympathetic.
