Final Fantasy Tactics had introduced an early form of firearms, and in real life during the medievel ages the Chinese invented gun powder. So I don't see any reason why not, however its useless since you can summon monsters and can increase physical defense.

Don't the Long Arms use projectile weapons? In a "future-theme" version of the World, maybe they'd be the ones to use guns, and Heavy Blades would use ... erm, lightsabers?? Still pretty evenly matched, I'd say.

Yes they do and no its not a later version. There are archers who are actually Longarms in .hack//SIGN and yes they've shown it before, I believe it was the episode where Sora and Ginkan teamed up looking for an infected monster. Can't remember for certain though.

What about that crazy gun-arm-gautlet dude on the CyberConnect site? Anyway, I think guns go against the "theme" of The World, which is more fantasy based. But it's kinda lame that only wavemasters have ranged attacks. Archers would've been nice in the ps2 games themselves.
