Helping Newbies
ok there are a few things in dot hack that you don’t get told and you find out through game play. when you find these things out you look back and say “Gee. I wish I had known that at the beginning of the game! so im starting this thread hopefully you veterans will post things for the newbies. things that are useful at the very beginning, or all through out. i have a few tips that i will post one by one, just to keep the thread going.
::blink:: ::blink:: ::cough::
tip
my first tip,
at the beginging of the game when Orca is training you, you can liev the dungen and go back in this resets every ting in the dungeon, you can re open the chests, and <i think> refight the monsters, this way Orca lvles you up a little at the begining.

another tip:weapons
when looking at new weapons i would look for the phrase "spin like a top" this means you will hit all bad guys in range.
also dont throw away your old equipment, save it for element matching, you want to have atacks and spells that are strong on what ever map you are on, i usualy have my main weapon and one or two others in storage that are of similar level.
rare weapons do not always mean better, actualy look at the stats before you deside to make them your primary.
keep tabs on what your party members have in the way of weapons if black rose is up at level 23 with you and still has her first sword.... thats not a good thing...
i would save before throwing anything in to any pool.

Are you talking about skills?when looking at new weapons i would look for the phrase "spin like a top" this means you will hit all bad guys in range.
... "Element Matching?" ... uhm... ok... so, you're saying that when I'm on lvl. 27, and I'm in a lvl. 30 dungeon... that I should equip... a lvl. 3 Twin Blade as opposed to my current twin blades which're lvl... let's say 14, because of element matching? I think you'd probably do much better just fighting for all it's worth... unless the enemy had absolute physical resistance - then it wouldn't matter if had skills to "match elements;" without magic spells, you'd be screwed no matter what you did.also dont throw away your old equipment, save it for element matching, you want to have atacks and spells that are strong on what ever map you are on, i usualy have my main weapon and one or two others in storage that are of similar level.
Not always true.rare weapons do not always mean better, actualy look at the stats before you deside to make them your primary.
Why isn't it? If she's on lvl. 23, and we're in a lvl. 18 dungeon, that weapons not going to decrease her HP, SP, and suck away her soul.keep tabs on what your party members have in the way of weapons if black rose is up at level 23 with you and still has her first sword.... thats not a good thing...
... erm... doesn't the game's BBS tell you how the ponds work?i would save before throwing anything in to any pool.
and god said unto cain, "wow you're pretty stupid."
Hey said "do not always". Which also means "sometimes" or "not always true". If you happen to mean something else, please explain more.Not always true.rare weapons do not always mean better, actualy look at the stats before you deside to make them your primary.
What if you happen to forget and do screw up? Are you supposed to be like "oh, duh BBS told me not to. My own fault, I better keep this crappy weapon so I remember next time."?... erm... doesn't the game's BBS tell you how the ponds work?i would save before throwing anything in to any pool.
pause tip
Ok here is something I found out when a cordless controller ran out of battery power during a battle. If your controller looses connection to the PS2, the game pauses. Once connection is reestablished you hit start to unpause the game. It’s a rather extreme way of pausing, you can just go in to a menu. And the game will pause but the internal timer will still keep going. If you are REALLY concerned about keeping the time down on your game you can do this.

Actually, I've found that understanding elemental weaknesses and strengths is key for doing massive damage to certain monsters.(quote) rare weapons do not always mean better, actualy look at the stats before you deside to make them your primary.(/quote)
Not always true.
For example, I currently keep a level 14 fire/darkness weapon as my main, but keep a level 11 wood/none weapon, and a level 13 thunder/fire twinblade weapon for switching out during certain battles. By doing so, I do equivalent or better damage to certain elemental enemies.
For example, Fire is stong against Water, Wood is strong against Earth, and Thunder is strong against Dark. By having a wavemaster in the party who can cast 5 different elemental skills, you can easily see how effective an elemental critical is! ^_^
To figure out if a monster has an elemental affinity, check next to it's health bar, and see if it has an elemental icon next to it. ^_^ It will usually also tell you if the monster has resistance to a certain element.[/quote]

Ruby... that's kind of a given in an RPG with elements.
The weapons themselves don't have "elemental properties" embedded in them. XP
As for the elemental critical... the Dying Hit pwnz elemental critical.
"hie i slash u once fore 75% off curent hp kthxplzbye"

I've actually had the controller loose connection with the PS2 before,but it's not a cordless it is a regular one.Funny how it happened every now and then,while Kite is standing in battle getting beat up. :/Ok here is something I found out when a cordless controller ran out of battery power during a battle. While they may not have "elemental properties" weapons DO adjust your various elemental stats, Rhyste. Further, most (but not all) skills certainly do have elements, and skills are found on weapons and other equipment. For example, Thunder Coil is all but useless against a Goil Menhir.Rhyste wrote:Ruby... that's kind of a given in an RPG with elements.

Regarding your comment about elemental weaknesses being a given...certainly, you seem to consider them to be self evident, considering that you MUST be an expert RPG player.

However, this thread was started to help newbies. And since a newbie to the .hack game might also be a newbie to RPGs, I'm trying to be HELPFUL by mentioning it in this thread. It took me a couple of hours of experimenting to figure out what exactly the elemental weaknesses were and were not. ¬.¬;

I've posted this in the other two threads and locked them, but I'll leave this thread open for now, since it's not really causing any problems regarding 'game help'
I just want to remind everyone to keep in mind that these are not help forums, they are discussion forums. Discussing aspects of the game, such as elemental attacks and such is alright, but it's not quite what I made these boards for. I don't mind, so long as they don't become a problem.
As a reminder, I do not approve of questions on a specific part of the game and/or how to do this/that, etc. Those one-reply questions can be answered at the unholy grounds of gamefaqs quite easily, and keeps from cluttering the boards.
Thanks!
