Real Time MMORPG - Unanwsered Question..?
I was wondering something..
I realize that The World is a real-time MMORPG and that time travels the same pace in the real world as it does in the game, as there is much proof of this. I also realize that //SIGN lasted close to a year correct? So during some scenes you'd see Tsukasa be places with different enviorments or different seasons, so if I am correct in assuming that when they are at a place where it might be snowing, does that mean it's winter in the real world or in The World do different fields have different seasons?
I didn't find anything searching related to this topic. ^_^

From what you see in the game series The World works like this...
Characters log in inside things called "Root Towns", which are social areas with shops, gathering places, and no monsters, in the center of each town is a thing called a "Chaos Gate" (The blue spinny circle thing), players use this gate to teleport themselves to "Fields" using sets of three keywords.
The traits of that field is determined by the keywords used, and the server/Root Town that the player is teleporting from. Since there are hundreds of keywords that can be used there is an almost infinite number of fields to choose from.

Hmm ... are we really certain that time passes in the same way? Don't get me wrong - it's fairly obvious that if a person plays for an hour, they'll experience an hour passing in the game. But we see the root towns at various times of day in SIGN (midday, night, sunset, etc) and we don't know what the actual time in the real world was. Moreover, since people from areas far removed from each other can play simultaneously, someone in the middle of winter can fight someone in the middle of summer. If I had to guess, I'd say the fields have their own timetables.

So, you're asking if The World has seasons? And if it does, if those seasons reflect the real world? ... I don't think so, since people all around the world can play the game, seasons wouldn't be able to match up for everyone. Yes I know there are regional servers... but I still think that Lambda Glorious Unsettling Home (or whatever field you want) is going to be exactly the same, no matter what time of the year you access it from.

.hack//SIGN takes place over 6 months to reflect the amount of time it took the anime to air on TV Tokyo. Anyone who has played the games and seen .hack//SIGN would be able to answer this: The World does not have seasons nor does it have day or night. Those are reflected within the default area settings: Ie, Carmina Garderica is always in night time, this is shown in both the anime and the games. The only way this isn't reflected was within UdeDen's anime during the cliche night scene where they go to Levamont or wherever and it's night time in Mac Anu (obviously the UdeDen producers had no respect for the aspects of The World -_-).
and god said unto cain, "wow you're pretty stupid."
Mmm ... gonna have to challenge you on that one, Rhyste. In SIGN we're shown Dun Loireag and Mac Anu through both day and night, as well as a few moments in various fields at dusk - maybe as a pun? (Shrugs) Anyway, The World definitely has some kind of time rotation.
