And my hopes are crushed as of today. It was revealded today just what would make the special edition so special, and it would be the extra disc with episode 28. No extra box, no new soundtrack, nothing. If you want the true, final episode of .hack//SIGN then you'll have to get the limited edition. Thankyou so much Bandai, your wisdom astounds me!!!

even though i've seen the extra episodes, i still want them! also, where did you get this information from? According to the .hack website, the standard edition contains "Two full-length bonus episodes" Unless the other one is the recap that was removed, then ......yeah.....

yey! from what i just read on there, it also says that //GIFT will be on the liminality disk. That mean's it's probably an easter-egg on it! I just hope they didn't paint swim suits on the characters. (for those of you that don't know, //Gift contains nudity [and a nosebleed!] and the US usually paints on swim suits on the characters to cover up)

It would be nice to see //gift on the last Limited Edition DVD instead of the lastepisode of the OVA.
If that is true that the last episode is only on the limited edition that is really corney and would suck for people who can't get it!

Here's the posting from Anime on DVD's main page.
".Hack Vol. #6 Details (03:38 PM EST): Some details on the 6th volume of .hack from Bandai Entertainment came out during a session on IRC this afternoon. The regular edition will be a single disc release that contains the end of the series up through episode 27. The LE release, which retails for $34.98, will be a two-disc set that also contains the 'fan-made' episode #28. One of the original plans tossed around was to come up with a box to hold the video games to go with the last release, but that didn't pan out for various reasons. This fan-made episode is not .hack/GIFT, GIFT will be included with the last episode of Liminality in the last PS2 game."
That should clear up some of the questions. I'm guessing we'll get more news as the release date gets closer. It's still three months away, after all.

So I think we're looking at March 6 as the current release date. Still a ways off but that gives you all time to save up for it. I'm kinda bummed about them not including Unison in the regular version, now I have to spend $10 more.
But i suppose I shouldn't complain, at least we're still getting it. Oh and thedude, The editing will depend on how //GIFT is packaged, if it come with the Vol. 6 DVD then it won't be edited. If it comes with the games then it probally will be, then again... maybe that's what the "Mature Sexual Themes" rating in //QUARATINE is for. I suppose we will find out in January...

If i am not mistaking; they are releasing the dvd in march because of the release of .Hack//Legend of twilight bracelet (or whatever its name may be) on TV. Because they noted on the official Dot Hack website. (Coming soon in 2004). So that would explain much i think.
Do you know anything about this?

From what I know the delay of volume 6 till March is due to the fact that Bandai, who had earlier let Pioneer handle dvd distribution, switched to in-house distribution. This resulted in delayed releases for a number of dvds.
