Hand dominance lefty/righty
*Newbie waves hello* Anyways, I've noticed that a good number of the .hack//sign crew seems to be left handed. This came as a surprise considering that most anime characters look like righties. Also, left handers only make up around up to 10-11% of the population (which would include myself ^^). Would this be considered a strange sort of symbolism? Maybe it could mean something of the path less taken, or perhaps alluding to not exactly fitting in (after all, there's not alot of lefties in the world).
Tsukasa and Subaru are both lefties (they hold their weapons in the respective hand, and also, Tsukasa has a tie on the left side of his waist). Mimiru is righty from the way she held her sword in ep 1, with the handle on the right side. That's a dang heavy sword, too, and one should probably use the hand they trust more when they hold that sort of thing. Ginkan and Bear are righties, because they hold their swords on the left side for easier access. I couldn't tell from Crim's part because of a short attention span, and Sora, being a Twinblade, was confusingly ambidextrous, though with a mild preference for the left hand. BT held her staff with the left hand also.
One more point is that it's the game characters holding the weapons, and we haven't a clue what the characters use in RL. In the ending scence however (is this a spoiler?) Tsukasa held a bag with the left hand.
Comments?

Some people believe that being left or right handed detirmines what part of the brain you think from. If you notice that someone is left handed, there's a good chance that they're dominate mostly with the left side of many physical things.
What am I getting to on this? Hang on... ^___^
The left side of the brain is involved in logical thinking methods. These include math, speaking, reasoning, using patterns...
The right side is more on the creative side, involving music, art, and seeking patterns.
The left brain, in most cases is dominate while the right brain is submissive.
If the majority of your actions plays off of the left side of your body, there's a good chance you think with the right side of your brain as a majority, and vice versa. This could be a sign to show creativity or just the way that the two of them think...
...however, it could also be used to help add to the thought of being 'different' than everyone else. In the past, people who were left handed were persecuted for being believed to be witches. Often times, people would have to forcibly learn to use their right hand in order to stay alive. Young students were scolded and punished should they show that they would write with their left hand, and would have to learn to write with the right with incredible amounts of effort.

um...
Ooh. never thought of it that way. then agan, scientists say that when you're left handed, the parts of the brain dealing with so and so actions are reversed. having experience as a lefty, i have a harder time with standard "left brain" skills.
The forcing of kids to write with a different hand was actually hinted in a flashback (this is most likely too minor to be spoilerish). Tsukasa's dad was yelling at the calligraphy book works. It' not fun to be yelled at for writing with a different hand. When I lived in philippines my teacher still did that. It hurt, and since i was little i didn't know what i was doing wrong.

*nods* I had to learn to write with my right hand for other reasons. I shattered my left in a car door. -_^
of course, I went right back to it once I could, but I have to switch between the two on occaision due to pain I still experience.
Nevertheless... It could be anything in that area... I need to see the episode again to see what the fight between Tsu and his father was, because I remember seeing it as something completely different... but when you point it out in that light, it makes a lot of sense.
Also, you know when there's another fight because Tsu was arrested for shoplifting? Did you notice that they were girl's items? That's what lead to the thought that part of Tsukasa's abuse was for possibly being an only daughter in a dominately male society.

Whee! Multiple responses!
When Tsukasa starts to realize that he's a girl. It happens right about the same time.
As for holding the pen... Who knows what was going on. I'll want to look at the scene again. n.n;;; But that makes sense, also, though, when I'm listening to someone, I don't hold my pen normally anymore. I will shift positions with it, because I fidget with it. Let me take a look at the scene and see what I can gather from it with that in mind.
Don't change the topic on a post like that. That's not what's being distussed here.wave master wrote: I've only seen the first five. they only show it at 12:00 am on saturday and it's never a new one! I have the 1st dvd and the 2nd one is comming on the 6, but thats tooooo looong.
Like Yasha said, it's in the last few. I think it's like... episode 23 or so, actually-Duskino wrote: You know, I ALWAYS see people say that, but... I never see it!! What episode is it in...? o.o
