What if they actually made THE WORLD for the PC

Here's the thing.

If they have a neural connector set, there is no -need- for a body suit of any sort. You'd simply need to connect the device to the base of the skull and the brainstem to completely and accurately simulate the sensation of movement and feeling. Those who were 'connected' would likely not even feel themselves 'sitting' in front of the computer, though their bodies would remain still.. or, likely, slumped over.

There is no technology, as of yet, to do this, though I'm sure someone, somewhere is working on it.

And the concept is, yes, very similar to The Matrix.

There was something similar to that in the movie Virtuosity a few years back. That was a freaky flick.

People would use it for excessive amounts of time, which would pervent them from sleeping, exercising, and who knows what else...

sounds like a bad idea to me...

Nebu, you should read the Otherland books by Tad Williams then. Those really go into that aspect of VR usage with computers and the net and stuff, and they -are- creepy. It really makes you nervous when that idea comes into mind. o.o;;

Yes, it would be very unhealthy ^^ Your muscles would begin to atrophy, and likely, the natural nerve signals between the brain and the body would begin to malfunction, which could cause unexpected medical complications in the long term.

And think about the people who spend hours and hours online because they don't have a social life? They'd likely get very sick and quite likely, they'd die.

Scary, huh? :D

well, from what i see, we have strayed WAY off topic from pc to vr machined and neural links, etc. but in response to the original question, that would be awesome, i would buy it the day it came out. They would probably sell more copies having their games for the PC because i dont know of anyone with a PS2 who doesn't already have a Computer. But you find many people kicking themselvs for buying an xbox or game cube or nothing at all, wishing they could play the game. It would probably be a good marketing decision. oops, now I'm straying from the topic

Of course it's not a neural connector, this was a discussion on possible enhancements in the future of The World.

If the technology were available, a neural connector would be far more cheap to produce than a full body suit.

For the moment, though, there are only goggles and gamepads.

Let's not stray away from "The World" in .hack. All that's used there is a computer, a visor, and a controller(very Xbox looking that controller is..).

actually the controler looks more PS2 then anything else... but back on topic. what do you think the monthly fee would be, i say 1$$ a month, now i know thats cheap but that would still generate 10,000$$ a month if there is 10,000 users. and realy thats more then enough to keep the servers running. and people who are less likey to P2P will be willing to spend a buck on .hack if its a well bult game. IRO is see more then 10,000 users during sundays. i mean how mutch can server matenence cost?

I was really thinking about .hack made into a real game , like for one i was think of the player using gloves sensitive to movement ,but then what about other stuff moving ure legs and stuff i mean if ure using gloves u wont use a key board wich will be hard to understand cause games like that usually need alot of keys for diffrent approaches.
what i would agree in them makkin is like on headgear thingy and a key board like the show ?why cause thats more into our technology ,and for the reason that any other way would cost like they said thousands of dollars for just one set and that brings me back to the monthly fees and they would probably start chargin for upgrades .They will probably allow u to upgrade free for a while ,but after they have to do a major upgrade they will charge beeing like they just made a new game.

i just posted one like 3 minutes ago but i was thinking (yes i like to think alot) goin back to that thing were they but spoon in ure head w/e it would be cool if they do somthing like that imean that u would use youre key board without u knowing ure using it ,For example lets say i felt like moving to my left it would be like if i was really moving to my left withough knowing i pressed it ( i know pretty lame and prob impossible ). Oh and if they would make a game like that it would be great that they keep the graphics like .hack by that i mean instead of it being 3 dimensional they should keep it like if it was a anime cartoon no extra graphics to make it look real, but keep it like the show , i dont think ive ever seen a 3d game that looks like cartoons like .hack in the show the way they look
