What is next for .hack?

So, after you play Vol. 4 of .hack, watch all of //SIGN, read [by lieu of translated text or a domestic release] //AI BUSTER and //UDEDEN, and watch //UDEDEN's anime adaption, and even watch the semi-legendary //GIFT...what else will there be of the great .hack project? Maxing out your characters and beating every possible dungeon for the next year or two? Write more .hack fanfics?

.hack is meant to be a full-fledged franchise right from the start, which in itself is pretty overwhelming considering how it took other legendary franchises to adapt over the course of years. What else is there to move into? If what we have above is all of .hack so far, it's obviously going to be very profitable, and remain fresh for a "second wave." What's next?

Movies? What with Hollywood snatching up video game licenses by the droves (and picking a few anime series to adapt as well), what about the advent of a live-action .hack film?

"And now, the only people he can depend on..."

Alright, what about more anime? Everyone loves anime, right?

Okay, so anime has its problems too. But what about video games? Everyone loves video games. Hell, the can go and use the .hack engine from the past four games and create a whole new spinoff off of that? Say, when was the last time a popular video game developer did that anyway?...

lol. that was pretty funny... how much time did you spend on that??

I hope that if they do do some more .hack things they'll be.... decent (interpret that as you will)

I spent a few minutes on it.

I was actually gonna write a serious post, but I guess I got steered off course.

I can definitely see a .hack theatrical movie though, even if it's a compilation film.

a dot-hack movie (filmed right) could rule

It would have to be very stylized though.. I think a sorta film noir thing would work well...

Hell yea for a .hack movie (if they did it good) it could be like final fantasy movie graphics and would have really cool special effects.........of course they would have to find a plot line.........

In my opinion the next logical step would have to be an absolutely kick-ass MMORPG. Sure the technology isn't here yet for those goggle thingy's but they could make it like the game/chat called "There" (visit www.there.com for more) in which you can frown, act happy, go in a tantrum and all sorts of stuff. Well the possibilyties are endless, it's just up to the developers to deliver the goods (it wouldn't hurt to have quests made the dothack creative team, like in FFXI)

As much as I love .hack//... I think I've burnt myself out on it, to an extent at least... I wouldn't want to see anything else made really... because it would be pushing it to the point that they'd have to stretch for ideas, right? Although, I was -quite- amused by the beginning of this post. Thats just hilarious. ^_^; But I don't think I could handle much more than has already been put out. I think it'd just get repetitive at that point.

I heard from a pretty reliable source that a .hack movie script is in the works.

It's set for a theatrical release, so it might be a long time until we see it.

Well, they could always go into the .hack timeline for ideas.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did an animated version of the .hack//ai manga. It'd make a good OVA or a series if they really wanted to stretch it, and they wouldnt have to be trying to come up with something random and more than likely unrelated. Of course, there could be some master plan we dont know about in which case we'll get more story... and I'd never say no to an MMORPG. But I'm sure that idea had already occured to them. ::points to the survey that comes with mutation where they ask if you would play a .hack online game:: For now we just have to wait some more ^^
