Good ol' Suncoast... *sigh*

The nearest one to where I live is an hour's drive away (at 75mph).

I actually used to work at a Suncoast in New Hampshire... especially for the employee discount!

FLCL is highley recomended. but Evangelion is a genra unto its own self. i have seen raxiphon but love evangelion more. Eva is the hight of japanese animation and story. i havnt seen an anime that comes close to the level of evangelion. runners up are trigun, Cowboy beebop, Love Hina, akira, tgis, tgis:SAC, .hack//sign.

Evangelion was hardly above average, in my opinion. The animation is typical of Gainax, but I have seen better. The story was interesting, and certainly new, but I -have- seen better. However, as it was a 'new' thing, the fad stuck quickly in Japan, which would explain its popularity.

Its popularity showed it to be considered a good seller, and thus it was imported into America at the time when there wasn't much anime available, and thus, the Americans stuck to it. It was the first of its kind in America, and as we are just as obsessed with fads, it became extremely popular extremely quickly, spawning legions of fans from coast to coast.

This doesn't make it 'the best', however.

But you are entitled to your opinion.

Having just finished watching the Eva box set, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I didn't watch the series for the longest time, partly because of the hype surrounding the it - however, I found that liked the art style & the plot managed to keep me coming back for the next ep. However, I concur that watching it, especially the later eps, in one sitting, whilst sleep deprived may well do strange things to your head... n.n

FLCL is wonderful, BTW. Completely bonkers, but wonderful.

First of all, I haven't watched Love Hina. Now that that's out of the way...

This is NOT an "anime elite" competition. So what if Cartoon Network is making certain animes more mainstream? Have you read Trigun Maxim? Or the Cowboy Bebop manga? Or, *gasp* the Akira manga? Both Ghost in the Shell mangas are incredible. And last time I checked, Stand Alone Complex hadn't been "americanized" yet... (but soon).

At least he didn't list DBZ or Pokemon as runner-ups to Evangelion.

For some reason I feel offended by your comment, error. If it was me who was choosing which animes got imported, I'd want to pick good ones (like .hack//SORA listed) to share with people. When I saw Knockin' on Heaven's Door 17 months ago, the VHS tape was so degraded I could hardly read the subtitles. Some people don't have fansub connections, and many people don't even have the INTERNET. But these people still deserve to watch good anime without being accused of being "trendy".

Uh, actually I've read most of those mangas. I'm not talking about "trendy" i'm talking about hype. Okithxbye.

P.S. - If you still have a problem, PM me about it, i rather not let this thread get off topic.

I liked Fushigi no umi no Nadia.
Very Jules Verne-esque.

Anyone seen Dual! Parallel Universe. I believe it's another of Gainax'works, right? Well I finally got to see it yesterday (on techtv) and I absolutely loved it! It's not that serious (in fact it's pretty wonkers), it has good animation and the characters are pretty likeable. One thing I didn't like was the main character's voice (It's the same VA as Tai in digimon :x ) since I really don't like how that guy voice acts. He sounds like he's being beaten to do the dialogue

Abenobashi is where it's at...

Although I heard Pu-something Pu-something Puchi or something is also Gainax...

As for Evangelion...
As you may or may not know, Keel is the Wandering Jew of lore. The one who disgraced Jesus, exiled and eternally destined to wander without death. Thus by being the mastermind behind the Third Impact he will finally be able to escape his fate. Although you learn not everyone feels the same about being liquid like he does...
Anime itself is one of those things. Why must people get involved in verbal fisticuffs over such a thing as petty as anime? It's there to entertain, although some can bring about alot of thought like Eva.

As most anime loving people know, the manga surpasses the anime. Such is the case in Trigun, Battle Angel Alita, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, X, Rurouni Kenshin. Then, there are the mangas that are too good to be made into anime. Angel Sanctuary [ the OAV really doesn't count since -he- never showed up >,< ] and Trigun Maximum [ although the series went partially into it, it was changed from episode 22 on I believe ], and MPD Psycho...
