*sobs* I beat Mutation last night (and tips for the game)
Well, after 30 hours of gameplay (in just 3 days ) I finally beat Mutation! Well I absolutely loved it. Unlike Infection, we finally get some progress in story, with some pretty shocking turnouts in the end.
The AI was improved a bit (if you say first aid your teammates will heal until your in top condition now), and to beat monsters you always need to use strategy, since straight up hacking away at themwon't work for most. The have stayed the same, good looking characters but bad looking dungeons, though there are some new colored dungeons for those who notice.
Another most ppl will probably love is the fact that we see more Balmung (you even get to see him fly!). Oh and you can get Balmung's sword (it's called Siegfried) for one of your Blademasters just by trading (I think a girl wavemaster has it when you first enter carmina gadelica, can't remember her name though). Oh and you get more characters to help you along in your journey (though I kept using the old ones most of the time, since some of the new ones are pretty annoying).
One thing that I really, really like was the boss battles, which are pretty hard and have a sort of epic feel to them. Overall, as an avid gamer I give it an 8 out of 10, but as a .hack fan I'm giving it a 8.5! Keep on hacking, baby!
Here're some tips for all o y'all:
Well to beat the Grunty flag races, I recommend using a good handling grunty (like poison grunty in dun loireag) to get a feel for the course. Now the trick for better handling is NOT to move the grunty with the joystick, instead do it with the camera for better control and speed. How you ask? Just use the L1 or R1 buttons when a turn comes, and that way you won't lose that much speed (this is especially useful in Carmina Gadelica since Bony Grunty is very hard to control, but by using the shoulder buttons I was able to get first place. If you win first in any of the races you'll get a golden grunty and and an image for your desktop featuring Elk and a Grunty.
More to come in a couple of minutes...

Shadow: Just follow Rhyste's instructions for breeding grunties in her post. It's pretty easy. BTW I'm also stuck with Martina. I'm lv. 54 but I can't even touch her! And if i do touch her all my attacks miss I hate that evil girl!

I'm gonna search gamefaqs now to see if anyone has a strat for her and I'll edit for the strat
That's all theres to it :pGamefaqs wrote:Stehoney R - Prize: Goblin Cap A
LAMDA Detestable Vengeful Sunny Demon
This guy is pretty standard. I used Juk Kruz once and he dropped dead.
Alternatively, ErekoseDM suggests using the "summon goblin" spell using your
old gob equipment from INFECTION. Stick around the area and get some Oh No
Melons if you want.
Jonue R - Prize: Goblin Mail A
LAMDA Detestable Vengeful Messenger
He is better at dodging, but I just cast Juk Kruz 4 times instead of once.
Explore for some La Pumpkins.
Zyan R - Prize: Goblingloves A
LAMDA Detestable Vengeful Scent
Exact same drill, except I had to use a spell to raise my magical accuracy in
order to hit him. You COULD chase him down and hit him with your weapon (he
doesn't seem to dodge physical attacks as well), but it'd take FOREVER. This
area is full of white cherries, so collect them if you want!
Albert R - Prize: Goblin Boots A
LAMDA Detestable Vengeful New Truth
Same thing as for Zyan, except there are Grunt Mints on this field.
This last challenge won't come until after you beat the game.
Martina R - Prize: ???
Use Monster's Bane on her and then simply cast WOOD elemental spells on her.
She'll die as easy as the others (thanks to Devolution for this strategy).
Erekose DM reports that the new ability you get is:
Lv.2 M: R: None: Summon
Summon a giant goblin!

The toughest part of MUTATION was getting F Cores. Martina R was easy... I don't know about everyone else, but when I see an enemy that has a tolerance to Physical or Magical attacks, I use Beast's or Knight's Bane on them to negate that effect and make the battle alot easier. As you may or may not know, Tornado-type spells attack 1+ enemies at a time, multiple times. It's all about tactics people... geez...

To kill the goblins
Make sure to get plenty of speed charms.
Get spells that work against the Gobs.
And use the time weopons from the first game.
To get the time weopons, do the time quest.

Reprise
My last post was wrong.
My stratagy guide says to use THE MOON to stop her for a few moments.
BEAST"S BANE is useful to lower her magic defense.
Plus if you do get close to her you need to do quick powerful attacks.
The best attack against her is the spell MERROWS which is used by the FISH SKIN weopon.
Two hits should kill her.
Happy Hunting

Know that you know nothing that needs to be known. Other than how to tie your shoe laces. Without this knowledge you would fall on your face.
Xeno: To get virus cores, it's best your infection level is very low, that way you'll get it more frequently. A good field to get lotsa F cores is Lambda Chosen Hopeless Nothingness (note that there're lots of big monsters but the area is lv. 50, so be careful)
