Uh...

Actually.

ダーク = Dark
ダスク = Dusk
ダック = Duck

.... Helba is, apparently, Queen of the Ducks.

I have neither seen nor EVER heard of ッ being pronounced as 'su', and you'd have to give me hard evidence that this is so before I'll believe you. And I mean documentation from an official japanese dictionary, not from $japanese-individual.

ダック reading as Dusk? Lol, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Do you even speak Japanese?

Japanese is a phoentic language, there are no "alternate pronounciations" like in English. Go get an Education, I'd say.

Niu.... Grow up.

ダック is pronounced Dakku. Not Dask/Dusk... you're spouting a pile of garbage. You are grasping at straws like you usually do... e_e;

There is NO way, following the rules of the Japanese Language to make the 'k' sound of this word into a 's' sound like you're proposing. The ONLY situation where ッ is a S sound is if it is followed by a Sa, Shi, Su, Se or So.... and the Za, Zi, Zu, Ze, Zo sequence. Frankly I don't see ANY of those letters following the ッ. The small ッ links the silent 'T' to the the letter following it.

IF - IF it's Dark, it's only because the creators of .hack deliberatedly created an ORIGINAL word specifically meant to mean "Dark" within the world of the Epitaph.

It's like the Minbari word "Daath Furst" in Babylon 5. It /sounds/ like Death First, but it means 'I yield to you' in the Minbari language. You can argue all you want that it's "death first" but you know what? It's NOT a real word... and people that make a living making these stories can create a word called "Dakku" and say it means Dark.[/b]

.. *Sweatdrop* Well, I don't know if, ah, Japanese Person wants me to give their identity away, but I can verify that yes, they -are- indeed Japanese, and I'd trust them more than anyone else.

.... but it's an interesting alias.

Anyway, that's just in case anyone was wondering.

lol, I wasn't talking about your post Sora. I was talking about Niu's post, which should be obvious from the content of my post.

Is it me, or did this argument get really out of hand and a little off topic? Anyway yeah, I got in touch with my friend and it isn't dusk like Niu thought. At first they thought it was ducks, but it's Darkness. So it's Helba Queen of Darkness not Dusk or Ducks.

I wasn't talking about you talking about my post, JP o.-

At any rate, Aura, for the moment, we're still in debate about the subject of the thread, which is the epitaph in mutation. I consider it to be on topic as we are dealing with technicalities that involve the translation of the epitaph.

Please leave the moderating to the moderators. This is my request.

... lmfao. It's quite obvious you're keeping this open because everyone likes making fun of Niu. :P~ I do agree Niu is an egotistic idiot [moreso than I am/was], and do agree that this has little do with the Epitaph Stanza from Mutation, seeing as how it has to do with the translation of the ACTUAL Un-edited Epitaph written by Emma.

Kthxbai. I'm going to chew on an aspirin, wash it down, and go to bed now. T_T
and god said unto cain, "wow you're pretty stupid."

I think the first time I read it, I was like: Queen of the Duck *sweatbeads and glances at the parenthesis text* Oh... Darkness... Phew

When they decide to parenthesize text, it usually means whatever is written there should be interpreted as the parenthensized text. It might not even remotely LOOK like the word it's supposed to read as (Thank god for stuff in parenthesis)....

You see it more often in lyrics when they substitute things like if they used the kanji of "Jikan" and wanted it to be sung as "Eien".
Tsukasa wrote: ______ でおこなわれる 光の王 * アペイロン と 闇の女*ヘルバ 会談

(I can't clearly make out the first kanji on the gif, mind you....)

However, it reads out as "___ de okonawareru hikari no ou * apeiron to yami no joou * heruba kaiden."
Since I'm REALLY bored and reading back comments right now... It was "湖のへそ" that you couldn't read. "Navel of Lake". ^-^

Bah!? The topic has drag onto my Japanes eskill? oh please, you want to figh ton this, go to some other topic or talk to me or send me PM.

And I am gretaly disturbed by your words Kite. Saying thing like Niu grow up and any cirisism of those kind should not be said even you are a mod. If you have problem with my japanese skill. Deal with me personally.

And have some manner please! If you indeed find some mistake, at least spaek it nice like rayJNT or Sora. I never said I made no mistake and I willingly corrcted my mistake when rayJNT pointed out. Bahm I edited all the post that I have mixed up on the Shadowed Girl when rayJNT asked me nicely.

Throwing criticism like that at me is completly unaccpetable!!! And I am taking this as a very serious matter. I wish you can take those criticisms back.

Well, here's the deal.

Rhyste's correct in that there isn't much more to say on this thread, and so I'mma lock it.

Since it's the right thing to do, and a moderator SHOULD do that, since it cuts down on arguments and stuff.

Truthfully, though, in the last few days I've not really cared as much as, well, maybe I should. So even though I'd be content to play devil's advocate and keep this argument going, I'll stop it here.

But I'll say this much. Niu, you can take offense all you like, or you can ignore it and just let it be. When people are frustrated, they tend to take on tones like that because they're, as I said, frustrated. Sure, it would be more polite to watch what you say to avoid stuff like that, but as I've not cared quite as much in the last few days, I haven't said anything about it.

Most of that seemed to have been pent up frustration from your days at the Suikosource boards which -some- people have had to deal with before and were terribly irritated with. They know who they are, I won't point it out. But yeah, they shouldn't have been so snappish, but at the same time, people get frustrated when they have to deal with repeated incidents involving people being blatantly wrong and refusing to admit it.

Sound familiar, doesn't it? <insert self-mocking laughter here>

So frustration is perfectly understandable on both ends.

If you are going to take it this seriously, and if you are truly, mortally, and forever offended, take it up with them in PM.

But as a note on future discussions, I'd recommend making sure your information and evidence is undisputable before you argue over technicalities. This is always a recommendation, not a rule, since a lot of information is false and such. But be prepared when someone comes along and proves you wrong. I've had to deal with that, and though we may wish to argue to the death small innacuracies, that's the sign of a person who likes to debate things.

But this, yeah, while not on the exact same topic, for the record, this was still on topic enough for me because we were still dealing with the epitaph itself.

Mod's judgement, like it or leave it.
