Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is Phantom Pain? If memory serves (and it does 50% of the time) Phantom Pain was the name of the script (or possibly the original title?) to Squaresoft's Vagrant Story. I find it a little sad if this name was stolen/copied/whatever for a .hack book.

White flag! White flag! I surrender!

Geez, Rhyste. I was _kidding._ I was criticized for being concerned that going to a far away boarding school might be somewhat isolationist. Perhaps I did take things too far, so I jokingly said I was reading too much Dickens.

I'm AGREEING with you. Boarding school isn't necessarily hell, or even bad. Okay, okay.

Back to seriousness, though, I'm just...sad. Tsukasa/An seemed to have acquired a new "family" to love her at the end of SIGN, but it seems she's going it alone. I'm not saying she'll become disassociated again, but I think she deserved more, and things were more then set up that way at the end of SIGN.

*AHEM!*
[Big speaker/debate thingy-mode] Actually, think with me for a moment. Tsukasa has been in contact with only- what- Eight people (?) For how long? Wouldn't it be nice to go somewhere and meet lots of new people. make new friends, and do things? This could be a perfect place for a boarding school to play a role. *Thank you* [/mode]

Reki's blabbed it in his announcements recently- it's another .hack novel that's just come out. It takes place between .hack//SIGN and the games. And very interesting too, considering who's apparently still running about in it...up until the end of it, anyway. I skimmed through Kite's copy, since I can make very little sense out of kanji.

Andy00 wrote:"And then they went their seperate ways" happens so much in anime, it's depressing. And mindboggling, when so much is done during a series to be together.
However, it's something that happens very frequently in the real world. I have good friends who I haven't seen in 5-6 or more years because of college separating us and things like that. It's just a facet of reality that happens to people very often.

Whether it happens or not in reality, just to have the seperation occur "off camera" is somewhat annoying. An afterthought. Especially given all the importance poured into the connections during the series itself.

And I'm not saying she can't make other acquantances. Just wondering why it has to be in boarding school, and not a closer college.

A note, though.....

In Japan, college costs _money_ doesn't it? Would An be getting this from her father, despite being likely seperated, or from Bear? This adds weight to Bear having adopted her, though it's possible he'd fund it without doing so.

actually, Japan offers a public school system from grade school to college(my geography teacher makes as watch documentaries on EVERYTHING, ex: 46% of women are insecure about their breast size)but i think boarding school costs money, not sure

Oh, btw. Just to prove I _can_ contribute more than arguments to this thread, "phantom pain" is a medical term for people who have lost body parts. It's when that body part seems to hurt, even though they don't have it anymore.

Thank you very much! I retract my previous insinuation that .hack was ripping off Vagrant Story.

That makes everything make so much more sense. My assumptions were correct then, the title of the novel reflecting Sora.

Fufufufu.....

The "went your separate ways" stuff is proof that you've gotten over something and are ready to move on. :3 Granted you'll always remember "that thing," however, it's mental proof that you can deal with what's happened.

It's not entirely about Sora, he appears in it though.... Which is an interesting thing considering when this novel takes place. ;)

Sou yo, sou yo ~_~

It seems that it will provide a bit more insight as to what really DID happen to Sora after the end of the anime.. and perhaps it will put a definite end to our countless debates o.-

When Kite and I are less busy with this and that, we'll sit down and try to read through it (that is, I'll make him read it and I'll take notes for you guys. Ufufufufu.)

The illustrations are very nice, though, I'll see about taking some photos of them.

As for this '' the went their separate ways'' ordeal... Don't forget that both Tsukasa and Subaru show up in .hack//QUARANTINE as party members...meaning you get their member addresses. Also don't forget that Bear leaves a message for Mimiru on the BBC telling her to meet him where she first met Tsukasa. So there you have it...they do stay in touch after all. All this thinking has seriously given me a major headache... Now I'll leave you all with Rhyste. OK Rhyste...resume the flaming :!: Oh, and Sora...I'd love to see some pics if you'd be kind enough to scan and post them...Since I can't read kanji and there's little hope that I'll ever see the books here.
