I'm sure it is legal. I was just unaware that they were selling the OSTs separate from the pre-order bonuses.End of a Shadow wrote:I dead serious when I said I bought it for $12 plus tax at Suncoast. It's .hack//SIGN Volume 1, and it's the actual CD. Its not copied, and Suncoast aint a retail store to sell bootlegs.
.hack music
The cd's I bought off of eBay are not bootlegs at all. They sell the cd's seperate as well at Amazon.com, Half.com and some other "Official" Anime webstores.

Well, when I was talking about bootlegs before, I was referring to the link in the post above mine. I don't know anything about the Suncoast CDs, so I can't really say anything. ^^;
I do stick to what I said about eBay, though - it is possible to find legit CDs there, but it's extremely difficult. Of the auctions on eBay right now for .hack soundtracks, I found exactly one that was, without a doubt, authentic. There were two others that looked like they probably were, but only because one had, according to the seller, come with the special edition of a US DVD and the other was a single, which bootleggers usually don't bother with. All the others I saw were bootlegs. --;
One thing to keep in mind if you buy imports: if the identification number for the CD (sorry, I don't know the proper term ^^; ) begins with something like HO- or ALCA-, it's a bootleg. The ones for all Japanese .hack CDs start with either VICL- or VIZL-.

How sure are you about this? Is it for all .hack cd's? I have other imports with numbers like, A8, CV, and GM. Sadly to say, and I hope they're not...but my .hack soundtracks have ALCA -_-Jejune wrote:if the identification number for the CD begins with something like HO- or ALCA-, it's a bootleg. Ok, my mother helped me find this out. ALCA stands for the record company that produced the album (cd). It DOES not mean that the cd is a bootleg. Check any other cd's that aren't international ones. Also, a store advertised in the popular, Animerca Magazine, http://www.asylum-anime.com/ sells these cd's with the SAME exact numbers that are on my .hack cd's. In conclusion, ALCA does not stand for, "bootleg recording".

Not specifically. However, the record company that owns the ALCA tag is a known bootlegger, and as such, it pretty much means that it is a bootleg.Hema wrote:ALCA stands for the record company that produced the album (cd). It DOES not mean that the cd is a bootleg.
As for Asylum-Anime, they are clearly not aware, or they do not care, that they carry illegal bootlegged CDs. Infact, many Anime distributors in the US (Planet Anime, etc.) distribute these illegitimate CDs, almost certainly with the full knowledge that they are bootlegs.
