Still you raise the point that people tampering with his original character design might be the key to what's going on here...

Ahem. The God of Darkness is Wyrneck (sp?), he's in the games. The staff jutting out of his chest is a Q-shape, identical to Skeith's.

I see... just one question... is this from the game or the anime? I was hoping that they may have shown a statue of him in the anime. I know they changed it in the game to match Skeith, I just wanna know if this guy was in the anime and what his staff looked like...

I don't recall him being shown in the anime. In several scenes featuring the End of Dungeon chest, in fact, there were no Gott Statues whatsoever. And I don't recall hearing those words anywhere in the fansub I have. Hm.

Skeith's staff was a Q in the anime, however. I don't know why they would try and change it into a cross.

No, because I do recall seeing them at least once when they reached the end of a dungeon. I just find it odd that sometimes, they were absent. Like in the first episode.

Bleh. I'm 99% sure they didn't. I think it would stick in my memory if they showed the one with a Skeith-staff. And I'm fairly sure that some of the ones they show, (like the ones in that 3-Question Quest) weren't one of the elemental Gott statues.

*cough* On an unrelated note, can someone message me a copy of the three riddle questions and answer? My fansub only shows the first line of them, and I failed to tape the dub.

I just realized something funny...
You know how the official script to .hack//SIGN is on cc2's site? IT calls the staff a "cross":

I suppose "Q-cross" makes sense in English, but 十字 ("Jyuuji") is I'm fairly certain exclusive to + shaped crosses, as it kinda means "+ shaped".

I dunno. Maybe that was the best he could do for "big staff thing with a Q on it", 'cause that was how it's always looked in the anime. Only in some versions of the game was it, for some unknown reason, changed to a cross.
