I remember seeing the Games in the store before I saw Sign. I caught the episodes late one night after learning and obbesssing about the games.

That might be the case in Japan, but here, SIGN came out first.

I was talking about Japan, the games were released first, then the anime... though they were released very close to each other. As they were planned out at the same time.

Well, I guess it really doesn't matter what you play/watch first... You can't completely understand SIGN without playing the games, and you can't comlpetely understand the games without watching SIGN. At least that's how it works for me.

No, no, I don't mean the plot of SIGN, I just mean the feel of the game. When I first watched and finishes SIGN, I can't exactly say I understood "The World" a whole lot. Heck, I didn't even know what Mac Anu was or how fields and dungeons and what-not work. Once I played the games, and re-watched SIGN, it helped me understand what was going on a whole lot better.

Well, not only SIGN, but all of .hack in general... considering it's the main focus of .hack ...
