The movie had a big theme on choice and control. The machines seemed to beleive that they could shape choices people make by manipulating certain events. Or shaping one choice into the obvious and logical one. Heh, and one way to control someone is to have them believe that they are free, or had been freed. Neo seemed to screw that one up, based upon the theory. Yes, Smith seems to be playing a large role in future events. He may even join up with the trio, given he had no real motive to fight Neo. Maybe he was upset that he couldn't absorb him 'entirely'. Something was transfered into Smith when Neo beat him in the first movie. Maybe Smith has some humanity in him now.

Smith coudn't join the trio, cuz in the trailer he's fighting Neo in the rain with alot of his "clones" lined up like walls. Plus that would destroy the whole Neo=Jesus symbalisom. We dissected the movie in English, it was soo GREAT! It's like, Trinity=Holy Spirt (and the name, TRIRNITY) Morpheus=God, Neo=jesus, and there is sooooo much hidden symabalisom in that movie that backs-up that neo=jesus thought.

Actually:
Morpheus = The Father
Neo = The Son
Trinity = The Holy Spirit
The Father sends His Son to the world(the Matrix) to save the people from there sin(separation from reality or separation from God). The Son is reserected after becoming one with the 'Holy Spirit'(the kiss where they both fall in love).
They say it also has a lot to do with Buddhism. Awakening to enlightenment...

that's the same, cuz god=father, jesus=son, holy spirit/ghost=Holy Spirit. Anyway, like in the beginning, There are three flashlights focused on the door (tri=trinity) When she's talking to Morpheus she says "God dammit" and only says that around Morpheus. There's alot more backin' me up, check http://www.matrixfans.net/symbolism/christian.html for some of them. And http://www.matrixfans.net/symbolism/messiah.html for neo-only

I really don't see any significance there. I remember her saying "God damm you Cypher". Bah, I can't spell his name, but she said it on the phone after he killed Switch. This happend after Morpheus was captured(i.e. not around Trin at all).When she's talking to Morpheus she says "God dammit" and only says that around Morpheus.
If anyone can find where Christianity is apearent in the second film, please say so. I can't find it anywhere, I've only seen it once though I remember quite a bit. The fact that Trinity Morpheus and Neo are NOT immortal really throws a wrench into the metaphor. Buddhism is still apearantly represented

ACTUALLY...
In the original Matrix movie, Neo says "Oh God" and "Jesus", and both times Trinity responds with "What?". Also, Morpheus is the "god of dreams"... it's a simple mythological reference. Neo means "new", and it's an anagram for "one" (as in THE ONE
).
I agree with Pipian regarding the rave scene, in that it displayed some important differences between humanity and machines. But the scene could've been a lot shorter and still got the point across.
Perhaps my biggest issue with Reloaded was the over-use of CG in certain scenes. Why use CG when you don't have to? I'm referring primarily to the fight between Neo (with the staff) and Smith/s. The CG of Neo's coat and face were just too much.
BTW, stay and watch all the credits. Afterwards is a nice preview of the 3rd movie.

Two main schools of theory regarding the ending
At the end...
Neo gets that feeling and faces a group of Sentinels and stops them the way he stops bullets.
Now, to explain why that happened, there are 2 main schools I've come across...
Theory School One :
The "real world" is a Matrix within the Matrix.
In this school, the world is split in 3, with the Matrix, the 2nd Matrix which is used in case someone happens to awaken from the first one, and the true world.
Theory School Two :
When Smith attempted to assimilate Neo he left part of himself inside Neo ( a la Xavier/Magneto to Onslaught. ) Since Smith was originally part of the robots, Neo would be able to have certain powers over them as it's assumed Smith does.
I go with Theory School One because there was a rumour that was going around in which that was being said, and in an interview Carrie-Ann Moss [ right? ] said "What isn't the Matrix?"
Of course, there was also the rumour of Neo fighting 100 different versions of himself. In Reloaded he fought 100 Smiths so it's not true...
Or is it?
What if what the Architect said was true, but was also twisted? It's a long shot, but it'd be something like Neo fights all the "failed" versions of himself. I think that'd be intersting. Maybe it's just me though.
if any of you are wondering about that kid that Neo saved, you should check out The Animatrix and see if it say anything. It comes out june 3rd and explains bits in between the two movies.
I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will do in this moment.

Pondering the symbolism in The Matrix is all well and good, but sometimes school teachers take it too far. Beyond the obvious religious nature of Trinity's name, people often overlook other relevant references:
trinity : the cardinal number that is the sum of one and one and one
trinity test : On July 16 1945 the atomic bomb was tested at Trinity. Los Alamos scientists were the first humans to witness the power of a nuclear weapon.
... but who knows why she really chose that name?
And I can't wait for The Animatrix to come out. The machines taking over will be cool to see, as well as Final Flight of the Osiris.
