I'd like some of that bandwidth actually be for .hack, guys.
On the contrary: this is a forum with a lot of traffic.

This Babble Board pales in comparison.

I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will do in this moment.

Hmm... I definately think that more detailed Profiles will be of some help. Not much help, but some.
Black Lotus wrote:One new mod could be created with power only over the Babble Board and be told to control the vasts amounts of nonsense that takes place here. There are alot of mods already here that I never really see. I think that one more mod only in the Babble area wont make things worse. The person doesnt even have to be a .hack fan if its easier like that, it could be someone that Bear, Tsukasa, or Sora know IRL.
That's a great idea. Certainly that would make the list of candidates for a new Moderator a lot longer. Without .hack knowledge as a requirement, maybe the mods can think of somebody suitable to help them. The whole "we're sick of having to read all the babble, but we don't need help" thing doesn't make much sense. I think choosing one of current forum members as a new Moderator wouldn't be fair to the other users, many of whom would see it as favoritism in some way. I harbor no illusions about the glamorous life of a moderator, and I have no desire to become one. By choosing a new moderator from people the mods know IRL, they can bypass any such arguments as "that's not fair!" and the like.

If this suggestion is used, the only remaining problem would be bandwidth.

this probably isnt' the best of ideas but...

we could just close the board.... you can only post but new people can't register... therefore eliminating growth of the forum, n00b posts, and intro posts....

Hmm... We could always direct babblers to MY board :D But I jest.

In any case... The babble board is most certainly a prickly issue, with few options that will alleviate the problem without enforcing major restrictions on posters.

Whatever may happen, the moderators have my full support in whatever they choose to do (as they rightfully should).

The Megatokyo boards are huge because Megatokyo has an income. The boards can be big because -they get money-. I said it redundantly because it's the most important factor.

Now, if you guys wanted to donate large amounts of money to Sandwich.net, I'm sure keeping the Babbleboard would be no problem at all. However, all we're getting from you guys is traffic and the occasional insight into .hack.

As far as recruiting a new moderator... We don't personally know anyone who would be foolish enough to subject themselves to being a moderator. Most of them know how much of an annoyance it is. I don't know, nor do I trust anyone online, at this point, to do the same, yet.

We're still trying to decide what to do.

Why is being a Moderator such a foolish thing? :?

Actually, more of our moderators are more active than you think. Just because they don't post does it mean they're not active.

Second, I don't care how many members we have. This is A .HACK board. Not talk about whatever crap you feel like board. I'm getting frustrated with having to repeat myself over and over on this. x.x;;;

And the bandwidth is the main problem. How many of you have webpages? How many of you actually pay for your bandwidth? If you do, you know that webspace itself goes for a lot cheaper than the bandwidth. Keep that in mind. Traffic on the net is expensive.

If we're going to run a .hack board, we're going to want it's bandwidth to go to .hack discussions. How many times am I going to have to say this again?

You don't solve a problem like this by adding more moderators, because it's not a problem with the number of posts. It's more a problem of the fact that people are using bandwidth that is not theirs on a board that is not theirs to talk about things that are off topic from the reason that the owners of this board made it.

Now, if you owned the board, then it's your decision to let people talk about whatever the heck they want, but you don't. We already said that we want more bandwidth being used for DOT HACK. Not about killer pets, fried chicken, to even ridicule other members of the board (Which we will not let slide here, just so you know. I thought people here were more mature than that.), or everyone's ages. It's fine in moderation, but it has become extreme when it nearly triples the bandwidth of the rest of the board.

I will say it again. We've said we made this board for .hack. We want this board for .hack. And the purpose of this board is for .hack. Please, remember that. x.x;;;
