Yeah, one Wavemaster is usually a given. If you happen to find yourself up again three Physical Tol monsters, it's handy to have a character who can wipe them out, one two three.

well i usually go with blackrose, elk or mistral/wiseman and sanjuro. i really like the heavy blade type. they're so strong (its cool to see BR kill a monster with one slash). tho8ugh now since im so strong in mutation i take 2 sword types with me and leave the wavemasters behind

Well, since Bear locked (http://dothack.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1456) that thread I'll explain here: Each game holds full game info for each volume. So, you can get Balmung in vol. 1 w/Gameshark because his information is there. BUT, because Balmung is a story character, and AFAIK you can't call him into your party: you need the story trigger that flags his PC as well as his member address.
