Why Japan?
Well, when I've looked at anime trying to get into America, it doesn't work well.
Ever seen Lupin III? The transition from place to place was horrible. And in G Gundam, the Japanese person was the winner, of course. That's how anime works.
I THINK the only game/anime produced in Japan that does this right [and very well] is Metal Gear Solid. This game takes place all over the world [ESPECIALLY America if you've played MGS2] and they hardly use any stereotypes or self centeredness [I.E, the members of Dead Cell could have been Japanese, or Snake could be Japanese, but they're not] AND might I add this game is also very good, too.

Just because they'd have that technology does not mean that's the way they'd implement The World. I mean, judging from the fact that like Ryoth says in his email in vol2 (the japanese version at least) that there are "5 Japanese Servers" seems to lead us to believe that The WOrld is at least segregated (normally, though HOTARU and Sanjuurou are there for thei own reasons ^^; ). You can take this further and say that the The World program itself is different, because in the third game (Japanese) the update section of the BBS says something to the effect of: "Because of it's popularity in the American version of The World, FP support has been added." I dunno, take that as you will... But I have yet to see anyone in the servers shown in .hack who isn't speaking Japanese...CRtwenty wrote:I'm pretty sure there is some form of language filter in place, I mean we already have basic versions of them with things like Babbelfish, it's not too difficult to imagine a voice language translator existing in the year 2010.
Well, ummm, that's because G Gundam is a terrible show, but just to counter-example you, wasn't Allenby from Neo Sweden just as strong?Kama wrote:Well, when I've looked at anime trying to get into America, it doesn't work well.

Anywho, I think you're pretty damn wrong about MGS being the only one. Have you ever even played Sakura Taisen 3, or seen Noir or Hellsing? Yeesh...
キー・オブ・ザ・トワイライトってなに?
However, you can't say that Japan is the only place that does this. The US is no exception. The country that something was made in is obviously going to favor itself in most cases. How many US movies about the olympics or some world sports championship have you seen where the US is the winning team?
This is going to happen when you try to bring some sort of media from one nation to another. It's going to hold favoritism to the nation it comes from, of course.

But Lupin was shit! Every episode summary: 1. Lupin, Goemon, and Jigen are ready to steal something, in a place where the item convieniently is. 2. They go to the place, with perfect masks that seem to include a voice-changer. 3. Fujiko beats them to it, loses it to the rightful owner. 4. Inspector Zenigata appears, says "This time's for real Lupin, i'm gonna finally capture you!" 5. Lupin makes more perfect masks the resemble other people in the episode. 6. Inspector Zenigata arrests the real people, but then discovers later that Lupin got away.Rhyste wrote:Lupin was Comedy... it had excuse. =XEver seen Lupin III? You're only young once, but you're NEVER too old to be immature.
Hey! Udeden may have been repetitive, but at least it had a begining and end. Lupin just starts in the middle and ends in the middle... ^^; It took them till recently to make the origin movie, ne?Rhyste wrote:Lupin was like Udeden, in other words: same repeating episode.

Bah. Lupin had a certain entertaining quality to it though; the fact that it was TOTALLY mindless and didn't even try to have a story actually can make it better than UdeDen because UdeDen ditched their story sometime and tried to be more marketable for the people who thought .hack//sign sucked because it was 26 episodes of, ah-hem, quote unquote, "nothing but talking."Junko wrote:Hey! Plot anime, and a good one at that too.Rhyste wrote:Bah. Besides the games make up for the non-action so no compalints! *cracks whip* ^_^ JK
It's okay, we still love you. ^_^Tsukasa wrote:Ah. Wait. *whaps self* Silly me. n.n;; Don't mind me. This is a half delusional-needs-sleep-badly-because-class-is-in-4-hours mod. n.n;;
Anyway, Junko is right about Lupin it really goes in circles with the characters and how things happen. It seems everytime you see an episode a big chunk of the story that you should know is missing, so the episode is just comedy and action, and sexxah Fuji! ^_^
Udeden is different because it makes sense and you know why thing shappent he way they do, thus Lupin wouldn't be your best example, x.x;;
Omg, have you guys seen the adult swim Lupin text? The guys are like, "here's how we think it'll go: Lupin, Jigen and Goemon will try to heist something, Zenigata will be foolish, and Fujiko... ah... Fujiko..." xP
The same style can be used for UdeDen; "Here's how we think it'll go: Shugo, Rena, Mireille, Ouka, and Hotaru will participate in an in-game event made by Balmung and Reki. Kamui will be angsty, and the event will turn out to be bugged by four script kiddies, and Shugo will save the day using Data Drain."
