Barbel?
Wait a minute, I just realized something. People only go to shops to buy health drinks, Sprite Ocarinas, Fairy Orbs ect. Would you talk about what you eat for dinner in the middle of a huge crowd? Well, do you honestly think that someone would be talking about hackers and stuff in a Root Town? (Ok, I didn't word this right...)

Ah, but just because you aren't -at- the shop doesn't mean that can't hear/see you talking. As I recall, you can see the little speech bubbles from a certain distance, and even in real MMORPG games, 'say' has a radius. Pick the right shopkeeper, you could hear them talking on the water's edge a few feet away.

i think in a way the speech bubbles are just saying u might be able to "hear" that person from somewhere (it has the characteristics of a comic) since the designers didnt have like "300 people" all gonna say 4 lines as a character.... and the sys administrator can do "anything", they can log on as "normal" characters and lie and say our indicators or sumthing as to not say so much
even though this is an unlikely possiblility, its still possible isnt it?

I knew I didn't word my post right... Yes, 'say' does have a radius, but why would you talk in a root town? If you're going to talk about something personal, you would probably meet in a field somewhere. MMORPG means Mass Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Also, mvrckbass wrote:*needs to find out what MMOPRG means*
You have a point here. If 20 million people were playing (of course, not at the same time, probably like 2000-3000 people playing at once), the root towns would be as crowded as Disney Land on a weekend. If they actually had speech bubbles, it would be almost impossible to decipher all of them and pinpoint the person you are surveying.mvrckbass wrote:i think in a way the speech bubbles are just saying u might be able to "hear" that person from somewhere (it has the characteristics of a comic) since the designers didnt have like "300 people" all gonna say 4 lines as a character....

like today's chat rooms
and plus the whole talking command on the VR goggles would be a complete waste.
plus En Der like u said all the bubbles would be hard to see, thats why only (5-30) people are in one server for the game
(for curious people that 5 are in Mutation when administrators "locked down" the world)

1) The reason you can 'hear' them in SIGN is because it's from Tsukasa's point of view. Since he's inside the game, he interprets everything as reality. Since you don't have speech bubbles hovering over people's heads in reality, he 'hears' them speak.
Like with Mimiru slapping him. She can't actually do that, but he took her... I dunno, either /slap Tsukasa or /emote slaps Tsukasa... and both saw and felt her actually slapping him.
2) The speech bubbles are dumb, yeah. The only MMORPG I've played is FFXI, but in there, it's all displayed at the button of your screen, like a chat room. There's no 'voice'.

But what about the other players?
Remember when Subaru got beat up by that other player? She got up and went looking for Tsukasa. When she found him, you could see the real Subaru crying, and you can hear Tsukasa through the speakers.
So I guess sound applies for all players...
