Yeah. The key is making ht ebackground translucent and not the window. Though I am quite aware of the alpha support windows 2000/XP has.

I don't know anything about how things work, but it would be cool if someone could get that glass program, and alter it. o.o; *sigh* Wish I understood this kinda stuff, it'd be fun to help. n.n; (I can barely make a webpage XD)

I downloaded Glass2k, and tried it.

Only the Background? Image
Screenshot of Glass2k Effect (depending on your connection speed, you might have to wait a little longer for the screenshot (1024x768) to load)

(For people who don't know it)
With Glass2k, you're able to set a transparency level on your Windows. You can choose the level from 100 down to 10% visibility, but the Whole window, also the Border and so on is getting Translucent. It only works on Windows 2000 and Windows XP , because only this two versions of Winows support "Alpha Fading" (the Transparency support).
In the Screenshot on the link above you can see the Effect of the Tool.
That the programm takes much of your system resources is almost imperceptable, until you use the Transparency effect on - for example - Flash-sites like the official .hack sites, but then, you're system is almost dying.

-system requirements:
  • Windows 2000/XP with 64+ MB RAM & 400+ Mhz CPU
  • Visual Basic 6 runtime dlls
  • Graphic Card with 8 mb min.
If someone is interested in the programm though...you can get it
here (56kb)
and the "Visual Basic 6 Dlls" (required to run glass2k - install before using glass2k)
here (3.25mb)
(detailed Instruction on how to use it (and all download links) are here to find

What I really wanted to know was, If there's a programm like 'style Builder' (from TGTSoft, 'styleXP's creator) or "windowsblinds", that is able to Bind the Opacity thing directly into the Windows Theme-file.

And, changing the Color of the Finished Altimit-Theme wouldn't be such a problem, because you can use the same images as in the Orange one, only use a coloring tool... "hue/saturation" in photoshop..for example.

Then, ...has somebody an idea for a XP Bootlogo for Altimit? I could create one, but I don't have any ideas for it...because you only Can use a picture size of 640x480 with 16 colors. That means, no beautiful great lookin pictures, but Large pixel ugly ones. *eek*
Why? - Because the boot screen shows, before any graphic card drivers are loaded, so it runs in "VESA" mode, which only supports that at maximum.

ive thought about the boot... havent acted yet though...

also, fo the transparennce, what about tring something like making an image, or just small part of one that is a transparent layer with the color thinly sorta "sprayed" on and set that as the background... i dont know if it is possible, or if it would work, but its an idea...

I mean, you have to make the background of the window translucent while not making the scrollbar and title bar and so forth translucent. That's the problem.

Transparency was added in Windows 2000, and since XP is just a heavily redesigned 2000... that has it too... no version before windows 2000 has standard transparency capability... From what I know, there isn't any add-ons for windows before that that allow tranparency...

It's worked with various other things before like my old playstationOne
i got a file and hooked up my PS1 through a USB cord and then turned my PC into a PC/PS1

Unfourtunately due to the differences in the kernel desighn between the 9x and NT lines you cannot simply copy such files from 2k or XP to a 9x system and expect them to work... besides the functions are built into the kernel and support files anyways which makes it impossible to move them.

As for your little hardware hack there... if it actualy worked... impressive.

you could always try upgrading... one of the best ways to fix problems... wow, this thread is way off track now... we should try to get it back on somehow so it dosent get shut down cause it is rather useful (if your not in a bad mood and say a bunch of stupid stuff to anger people... heh... it always good when you can look back an laugh at yourself)
i'd talk to myself, but i dont feel like getting into an arguement

Actually were not far off track... well we are but I'm gonna BS my way to make it sound like were pretty close to the subject...

Were at this stage ironing out what can be done with legacy opperating systems in an attempt to deliver the best possible project to anyone who wants to download it for theitr home PC use...

in opther words... were figuring out what won't work before we spend hours trying to make it work.

^_^... or something...

*patpats* Don't be so paranoid :) Everyone messes up sometimes, and pointing out your mistakes and then fretting over them in the same post doesn't really serve any purpose. We're not mad at ya. I've been scolded before, and I have known the mods for a long time before this board! :P

But back on topic, I just upgraded to windows 2000. I may try out that program soon, after I get everything working :D Can't wait to hear more updates. n.n
