Capsule...the argument could be made that your feelings are programmed as well.

Case in point, next time someone throws up, look at it. I mean...really close. That sense of revulsion you feel? That's your internal programming telling you to stay away from it.

Pain is your programming telling you that something is wrong with your body.

Etc. etc.

True. Most say your brain is like a computer. Although, I'm pretty sure that AI's are limited to feelings.
& if it was an insult... You've confused me.

Nope. Not an insult, sorry if that was gross, but it was the best I could come up with. And why would AIs be limited? It would seem they're based on the human minds that play The World.

I just don't understand why you are against accepting the _fictional_ premise that AIs might be living creatures with souls.

Incidentally, Megaman Battle Network 3, someone in the ending makes this _exact_ point. That AIs are people.

.hack and MMBN (aka Rockman.exe) share so many simularities it's funny. Ah, the Japanese and their affinity to ripping of....er...I mean, being inspired by others.

AI's are human creations, & since they are programs, they can only acheive or react to what they have in their minds. Like in Xenosaga, the realians are limited to feelings, but are confused about most.
It's only a theory *shrugs*

To use sign as an example..
Tsukasa's mind is uploaded, and he's put in the game.
Who's to say that mind, as it's already in 'digital format', couldn't be decompiled, 'hacked' around in, modified, recompiled, and ran as an AI? Maybe that's how they work?
I don't know.. It sounds possible (in terms of anime and future) to me.

That's sort of like what happened to Yui Ikari in Evangelion. I'm sure it's a great possibility; but Mia has no body offline at all.

I suppose I wasnt clear in my point.
Say they modified the 'data' for the human brain 'code' and copied it into a completely different 'person' to make an AI. So it's running off the same code as a human, but it's artificial. (could you call it artificial?)
As usual, just speculation.

Not for my sake, but maybe spoiler tags are in order for that?

Back to AIs, I recently read the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach, in which AIs are created by a rather interesting method. A human brain is cloned many times, and these cloned brains (complete with residual memories and personalities) are then uploaded into a computer matrix. The process of digitizing these brains results in their death, and has a low success rate, which is why the original "donor" brain is cloned multiple times (to increase the chance of success).

I read another book (a very long time ago, I cannot recall the title) that suggested the use of newborn brains as starship computers. These brains, having no experiences or memories, are somewhat programmable as advanced calculating machines. "Wet-ware" instead of hardware. This concept is certainly disgusting (to me anyway), but it is known that the human brain possesses greater potential than our most advanced computers.

What if after the games, Elk actually find a girlfriend in the real world... and at the same time, CC corportation is hunting down the wandering AI's and nabs Mia, but instead of deleting her, they create a contest to give away that unique character model (like in Dusk).... and Elk's girl win it.

Just a crazy thought...
