I wanted to comment on the growth of //SIGN's characters

Post by AlphaAndOmega »

To me, although //SIGN moves extremely slow plot-wise, it seems that you know each character personally. The only character I really didn't understand was BT, I didn't understand her motivation or her change of heart. Did it really start when Tsukasa "rescued" her from those attackers that tricked her into going to a field by herself? Otherwise, I felt like I empathized with Tsukasa the most, but I always thought that he and Mimiru were going to be a couple. Yes I know that he is really a she and that paints a whole different picture. I also wanted to know other people's thoughts about which character you felt you empathized with the most and why. And I'm sorry to any of the moderators if this post is in the wrong section, I'm new here and I didn't know what would be the appropriate place for this post.

Sidenote: I mentioned this on yahoo's mailing list:dot-hack-sign, but I'll mention it again in more depth. I recently finished reading a book series called Otherland by Tad Williams. I know not such a monumental event eh? Well it was released some time ago, and involved a series of people who could not disconnect from a network. They were brought together by their investigations of comas that were occuring within children on the net. Suffice to say about 3000 pages later, you get to know the characters but the thing that got me was the similarity to .hack. There is even a roaming AI called "The Other." Also there is a recurring event woman figure that can only be compared with Aura. I won't ruin the plot but if you guys like .hack a lot, and I'm sure you do if you post on here often, then I suggest giving the Otherland series a shot, it's right up your alley. Again I apologize for the long post and my affinity for using huge paragraphs. But any comments are welcome. I will post a link to amazon, by the way if the moderators feel like I'm adveritising for the book series I'm not, it just struck me as very appropriate for the .hackers :). Anyway hope I"m not breaking any rules and yes I know I like to be extra-cautious.

Wow,that is a very long wording there n.x;
Hm..I'm not into reading myself,but it does seem interesting,just like that other one mentioned before "Leo@fergusrules.com".I cant really be sure with what character I kept following more,mainly Tsukasa of course,I wanted to see how the character would progress well through out the series,from those many events happening to him,different encounters with people,even in the game itself.Mimiru is another of my fav,and I wanted to see how long she would strive to keep up with Tsukasa's troubled state.That's mainly it.

Because I'm not an adult, I can't think like an adult, thus, characters like BT, Bear, and Crim are extremely foreign to me. :3 Bear however I understand sort of because my mom and dad are divorced, Crim is sometimes obvious, but BT is VERY coy about her actions. Seemingly, her experiences with Love aren't that great. This is strangely reflected in later episodes: BT likes Crim. Ginkan likes Subaru. But Crim likes Subaru, and Subaru likes Crim... however, Subaru also likes Tsukasa. She is... somewhat jealous of Crim's liking towards Subaru, as she is indeed very tempted to tell Subaru, at one time, that Tsukasa is female in the early developements of Subaru and Tsukasa's relationship with each other. I dunno about you, but I think BT could've destroyed and/or twisted Subaru's feelings for Tsukasa right then and there, out of a simple jealousy issue. However, she stopped and chose not to. And perhaps it's reflected that later, her virtue paid off when ironically enough, it was Tsukasa came to her rescue when she was fighting those two Blade Users. I can't really put this together properly [not now anyway], but there's definite correlation in symbolism and significance and what made her motivations change between the heartbrokeness over Crim, choice not to tell Subaru that Tsukasa is a female, her being saved by Tsukasa, and her brief leave from The World and her return. :3
and god said unto cain, "wow you're pretty stupid."
