Stupid 'Mericans, Some there are.
Okay, so outside of required changes, the american team for .hack//SIGN didn't do a very good job in bringing it over here in my opinion. Those who can, check and give me your opinion. Those who can't, an opinion would be nice. Here are some things:
1. They completely changed certain conversations to where they meant different things.
2. They kept the Japanese word for "Preview" right in front of the credits- without a preview.
3.They made Sora sound a lot more childish by adding a few words- wham, boing, etc.

Dubs do this all the time to match-up the lip-sync.ichi wrote:1. They completely changed certain conversations to where they meant different things.
I'm not sure I understand. I have 2 second long previews on my SIGN DVDs.ichi wrote:2. They kept the Japanese word for "Preview" right in front of the credits- without a preview.
I like that. It makes him more whimsical (IMO).ichi wrote:3.They made Sora sound a lot more childish by adding a few words- wham, boing, etc.

I still use those words in my own everyday vocabulary.ichi wrote:3.They made Sora sound a lot more childish by adding a few words- wham, boing, etc.
Your point? It added a lot to Sora's personality.

Sora also does this in the japanese version. It's just that, without comprehension of the language, one wouldn't notice it.
As for the lack of a preview.. they gotta edit it down so that they can fit as much relevent video while having enough time for two commercial breaks. This would only apply for the CN broadcast. If it's going on in the DVDs.. they're doing something wrong.

what would be the point of a preview in a dvd.... (ex last episode on dvd) if they are just going to show the next episode right away? just a thought...

I actually don't think that there is supposed to be any more of a preview than the few seconds of random clips from the upcoming episode that they show. As for the conversations, yes, they were changed, but as was mentioned this is done all the time so that the dub fits the movement of the characters' mouths. I don't like it either, but that's why I watch it subbed.

Oh! I love it how on the DVD you can just play the background music only... In the beginning of the first ep, it's quite funny, since sometimes the lips go in sync with "The World"... (Yes, yes, I'm amused with things like that...)
But anyway... Yes, I can agree with the whole 'changing one little topic', but at least the point gets across sooner or later o.x; If you ask me, I think they're doing a good job so far.

The only complaint I really have is that the inserts that go behind the plastic cover of the DVD case were made too small. On both of my DVDs, the part that's supposed to be over that spine which says .hack//SIGN and the title of the DVD is only half on the spine. Of course, if that's the only thing I have to complain about, I guess that means that everything else was done pretty well.

... uhm, too bad he says those in the Japanese version huh. All of the things he says are "action" words like in Batman.3.They made Sora sound a lot more childish by adding a few words- wham, boing, etc.

My opinion will come... when Balmung appears. <3Sorry, but gotta disagree with you. I think they've done an amazing job at dubbing.
and god said unto cain, "wow you're pretty stupid."
I guess that involves how you look at it. On it's own, I think that the dub is decently done. I've heard worse, and I've heard better. It wasn't until I got the first two DVDs and watched the sub that I really started to look down on the dub, since it just can't stack up against the sub. I personally think that's the same way with all anime, though.Andy00 wrote:Sorry, but gotta disagree with you. I think they've done an amazing job at dubbing.

But that's the thing fjf314, do you know japanese? If you don't, how would you know if the dub isn't better then the sub?fjf314 wrote:I guess that involves how you look at it.
