yeah well ive heard many stories involving characters in
dot//hack infection. just how many are there?
and are there secret ones???

Plus i was wondering after you complete infection can you continue your data onto mutation to have same stats/items or do you start over in a new "the World" ?

Kite plus 7 plot vital characters plus 9 optional characters, totalling 17 playable characters. There are odd unsupported rumors that you can play some .hack//SIGN characters in the last volume, but I dunno.

YES, you can carry your same data through all four volumes. On volumes 2-4, there is an option in the front screen called 'Convert' where it looks into your memory card and you choose the COMPLETED game that you want to continue.
