Transforming staff?

Post by thedudewhosadude »

I just noticed that Skeith's staff seems to transform from //sign to the games. In //sign it looks like a compass rose with and extending south and no west. In //infection it looks like a Q. On the cyberconnect wall paper it appears as a cross with a circle placed over it.

Yeah I too been stumped by this, I didn't want to start a topic cause I assumed someone else noticed it. But my theory is that he evolved :? I don't know it was just a stupid theory I guess.

The best explaination of the staff thing is a break down in comunication of the design, and the second best is that they decided to edit it after .hack//Infection Expansion came out and did so soon enough to change it in //Sign, and the english release, and as for the website, the people doing the art don't care about little things like what actually happens in the game if they can make a cool picture.

Nobody's really sure why the design changed from the game to the anime. It may have been creative differences between CC2 and Bee Train.

We figure that it was changed for the US release because, despite being a celtic cross, technically, it still carried religious implications (IE, data-drained characters being 'cruficied' on the staff) and so Bandai USA played it safe, editing it to be like the anime.

the desision came after a good porton of the game was made and animation of the final ep of sign was being done. you can see in the japanese ep 26 the Q staff. but if you play infection you can see the corss.(personally i like the cross better) but they did not want there game to be viewed as sacraligious because it would heart sails in the us.

How is it sacreligious? Christians were persecuited on many things. The cross has significants because that is were Jesus was killed. I remember that Christians were killed on obilisks(pointy Washington Memorial things that Cleopatra gave to the Romans) a lot. Besides, the cross was a good part of the Christian belief. I can see how giving that to a bad guy can cause some problems. But not sacreligious. I don't see it hurting sales either, witchcraft never brought down Harry Potter. Crucifiction was a method of execution. I just seems like a waist of time, to bother with it. Affiliation seems like a better reason.

I think using the cross in the games would just confuse more people. Why would it change? Why have a Q in the anime but suddenly a cross in the games? It just makes more sense to keep it the same shape.

I thought it would be affiliation. You don't want only Christians watching it. You make it more comfortable for any social group to watch. Putting a religous spin on a show limits your audience. I suppose they don't care how small the detail is. The mythical theme is too old to have any significance to people nowadays(Celtic/Germanic).

Ummm... just somethign I thought of:
In the (japanese) games, Skeith isn't the only one with that cross-shaped staff. The God of Darkness (I can't remember his name) has it to, right?

So I was just wondering since I've missed a bunch of .hack//SIGN eps and such and I know they showed a God Statue at least once... Do they ever show the God of Darkness statue in .hack//SIGN? And if so, what does it's staff look like there? Just curious, thnx. ^^

Gainax actually was in partnership with the .hack project.

The name of the man from Gainax was Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, but he did the character designs for .hack//SIGN too...

Really? He didn't character design for SIGN? Then what I heard was wrong... Go figure... ^^;
He very well might have changed it then...
[EDIT] Actually, after reviewing the back of my DVD case... it seems that "original character designs" were "by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto". That means that they prolly just didn't listen to him and changed some things... ^^;; Like I thought, he just did the base character designs, like like Keiji Gotoh, and then the animators for the series, and the programmers for the game, take it for there, ne? WHat you heard was probably feedback about how they mutilatd his work... ^^;;;{/EDIT}

I still want an answer on this God of Darkness thing, though... I mean, doesn't SOMEONE here like .hack//SIGN enough to know this off the top of their head? ^^;;;;;;;;;

Refresh my memory, I must have missed it, what's the question?

[Edit]
When they use the three words to reach that land and they have the fight on the catwal between the two towers,
might be him, and in one episode BT leans against a statue that sort of resembles what your describing, but I dont recall a statue to be honest.
