Best way to upgrade my PS2 DVD player?

Post by Andy00 »

I just got the third .hack DVD, and I can't play it! It doesn't recognize the DVD! It's not the DVD, I tested it with a friends player.

I figure I have to upgrade the DVD Player in the PS2. I hear there's different ways to do that, what's the best?

Upgrade? I'm not familiar with that... but I am familiar with this:
"Buy a new one" My old started doing that,and that made me fustrated,so in the end,I bought a new one. In my opinion,it would be best just to get a DVD alone,I mean,Some do cost lower then a 100 bucks.But thats just me,and it would be best when you play all those PS2 games on the system,and having the DVD being played :/

Wait a month or so until the next generation of PS2 is released. These will have superior hardware, including a single processor (combining the 2 currently used), a built-in IR port for the remote, and best of all, a progressive-scan DVD player. It will also come with the network adapter I think.

Just wait till it comes out. The original PS2 is a piece of junk.

The new PS2. It comes out very soon. I don't mean the PSX (which has a retarded name, since the original Playstation was called the PSX).

If you're getting the "Disc Read Error" try cleaning the read lenses. My roomate was having trouble with Xenosaga with that, and cleaning the lenses did help.

It could be that you just need the latest drivers....You can get them on a disk packaged with the Sony PS2 remote....which you can now buy for $14.99...try this before buying a whole new system.

Where did you find out you need an upgrade? O.o You'd wanna think a DVD player would be universal and that format of the DVD's would also be universal unless blocked by regional boundaries which we've already established can't be the problem since it worked on your friends player. oo;

Rhyste, turn on the PS2 without any CD in it, push Triangle and it will tell you what version the DVD player is.

Mine is "1.20U"

Just so you guys know, if that PS2 you're talking about is the one with the harddrive built in, with the chrome case and everything?

That unit is going to retail in the neighborhood of $1000. I'm not sure if this is the same one you're thinking of, tho, Egg. n.n;;

I think we've already established that what you're talking about is the PSX, Tsukasa.

Also, 'PSX' was never an official name for the first Playstation. I think that was just something that 3rd party accessories companies and fans created. It was simply Playstation, then PSOne.

But still, Sony should have recognized that the acronym was already being used.

I mean the soon-to-be upgraded PS2. It looks vitually identical to the current PS2. That silver monstrosity is going to have to wait till my next tax return. :twisted:

Use the DVD player on your computer (or buy one if you don't have it.) They're only like $50 or less these days @ pricewatch.com
