I noticed something odd when rewatching some of my old SIGN tapes the other day. In episode 5 (Captured), when Tsukasa summons the guardian, his staff is surrounded by a small crest or as I like to call it, a "glowy magic thingy." Any thoughts on what this might be?
And yeah, before anybody says it, I know it's probably just some random eyecandy one of the animators threw in. But if it was something intentional, then what would it be? I like the idea of it being Morganna's personal sigil, giving her power over Tsukasa.

you mean when he taps the bottom of his staff on the floor? To me that looks like the whole electon-orbit thingie....(ya know, no definite orbit, so they draw several hundred possible orbits, some of which look like curls and waves.)
You're only young once, but you're NEVER too old to be immature.
I thought it was just a flash of light (like an atomic bomb going off w/o the mushroom) that fades as it goes further away to summon the dumb-bell monster to symbolize destruction.

I like to think of it as the "spell" (or whatever you wanna call it) to summon the Guardian, instead of "Come forth, Guardian!" or something really cheesy like that :P
Lol,thats what it looks like to me.It's just a seal or a symbol.I'm sure you have seen it in other animes.Where they show the character and a symbol, seal or a diagram which is representing a spell, after they are doing different hand movements or a chant. And if you notice..in the .hack games, they also have seals to,whenever you cast a spell.

I've noticed it too, where Wiseman would use a spell or summon and some symbol thingie would appear below him, and sometimes the monsters use them too. So it's probably just for show.
Well, that's the thing ... I don't see the guardian as a "spell." It seems to be an NPC like Macha and the rest, not a special attack. The first and last times we see the guardian, Tsukasa doesn't do anything to summon it - it arrives on its own to defend him. I could accept the seal being a some kind of magical communication, but not just a special-effect like when you cast a summon spell. Those little hobgoblins aren't real AIS, and the guardian is.

Eh, I think that one too. Recall episode 14? When Maha appeared, she was like, "Yoo-hoo~! Lookie! *points*" And, well, I don't think a Guardian who attacked the guarded one is much of a Guardian :P
