Some thoughts on Unison
Some thoughts on Unison
I found the dance celebration to be interestingly parallel to the more PG-13 "rave" in Matrix: Reloaded. .hack being a celebration of human and AI working together as opposed to as oppenents, though.
WOW, Tsukasa sure has grown. He (I will refer to online Tsukasa as he) initiates the hand hold with Subaru when they get together in the Tavern (she was the one who always had to start previously) and gives Mia a big ol' hug. <g> (Elk's slightly jealous, slightly surprised expression at this is funny. It's like "Why didn't _I_ think of that?")
Plus, he sought out Sora and told him that he didn't need to be alone anymore, and that everyone can be friends. (And physically dragged him to join the rest of the crowd.)
We have some leading into the manga/anime, with Kite wondering why Aura gave him back the Bracelet after it was no longer needed. That there was some other purpose, so he'll take care of it for now.
Speaking of leading into the manga, Net Slum is showing signs of being a much more organized gathering of humans and AIs. There were at least a hundred Wandering AIs there at the party. (In the manga of Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, The Captain of the Green Knights, Kamui wants to destroy it.)
Two characters use of "Boku" (Japanese masculine form of "I") is interesting. Tsukasa and Mia. In episode 26, at the very end, we see Tsukasa in the real world switch from using "Boku" (and having the voice of Tsukasa in her head) to speaking outloud and using "Watashi" a more feminine version. This seemed to represent her acceptance of her gender.
In Unison, we see Tsukasa using "Boku" again. I see two possibilities here. He's "role-playing" because it would be weird for someone in an apparently male body to use Watashi.
Or maybe Tsukasa's player has just accepted that after thinking of herself in "Boku" terms for so long, as long as she knows she's a girl, it's okay. (Tomboys often use Boku, so it's not necessarily a denial of gender.)
Mia _also_ uses Boku. The American version of Mia's voice is rather feminine, but the original Japanese is rather deep. Of course, determining gender with an AI, who don't need reproductive differences, is relatively futile. Game pics of Mia seem to indicate breasts, but these are underplayed in the art of Unison. Again, this could just be the gruffer "tomboy" usage. But who knows? Maybe Mia is a guy. <g>
Edit: I'm reading here that episode 25 used Japanese feminine pronouns to describe Macha. Don't have any problems with that either.

It's REALLY funny that Lyoth wants to make Net Slum a Root Town now and lets Helba do as she please. And yeah... actually, when I first played the game, I thought Mia was like a male using female armor or something... ^^;;;; What do you mean 25 uses female pronouns to describe Macha? Usually these kind of pronouns aren't that common in Japanese... ^^;;;

Oh, some thoughts on Ginkan. <g> We see a reference to his actions in the .hack//DUSK anime. How he decided to fight for JUSTICE! :poses:
Also, I have gotten a screen shot of Ginkan, Tsukasa, and Sora doing the Ginkan Gorilla Dance. It's hilarious. I don't know how to make it available on the web though.

Heh. A slight "complaint" /observation. BlackRose and Orca are now _exact_ recolors of Mimiru and Bear.
I found this kinda odd, since the games (which have models of SIGN characters as well) has sublte differences besides just color. For example, they gave BlackRose different shaped hair. Orca was also "rougher" in design than Bear.
