.hack//Liminality a history

Post by HermitIX »

ok i was playing the game and i friend of mine brought up the fact that in other online RPGs the world has a history, and this was the main reason he felt that dot hack was not worth his time ::grumble:: so i wanted to know if there was a history to The World and i just havent gotten there yet. or i missed it

the history of 'The World' is revealed in many different places throughout the entire series... there are a few things in the game, some in the series, and a few in the ovas... that's all i've seen, so i have no clue about the other parts of the series...

Are you asking about the history of the game as it has be online? Because .hack//SIGN is major history in that sense, which, I believe, you find out about in game during the later games.

If you're asking about the story of "The World," then I dunno, but I think you do find out something during a mini-quest that is opened up after you beat the game. I haven't had a chance to do this quest yet, however, since I immediately loaned out my copy of the game after I beat it, so...I could be wrong. :twisted:

Well lets just say the history of "the world" goes deeper than *any* online RPG.

(p.s. - I don't know exactly what you are asking, it's a bit confusing. I just tried to round up everythign you asked and came up with this)

It seems to me that the history of 'The World' is the history of its creation. I understand where you're coming from about Everquest having a history within the game that explains why that world is the way it is, but 'The World' in .hack is like no other online RPG. It might have started out like those others, but over time it has developed an intense connection to the real world through hacking and viruses. Some of this just seems like random characters possibly trying to make cooler characters, but as you play the game you begin to get a sense of predestination. Why else would a typically Japenese game start out with a bizarre and largely incoherent (at first any way) message in German!

That's because 'The World' was based on a story dealing with Nordic myth. The history of 'The World' is that story.

I'll have to ask someone else to dictate the precise information on that story, as it's been a while since I've even bothered to look.

I think you might possibly be confused on the difference between 'The World', and the RPG '.hack'

'The World' has nothing to do with hacking or viruses in its canon history. The history of 'The World' is what you'd read if you were a character in the .hack series. What 'The World' has become now, due to strange occurances within the game itself, is hardly its canon history.

Besides, 'history' and 'what really happened' are completely different things.

.hack//LIMITALITY (anime going along w/ game)
.hack//DUSK (manga and anime)

Tell em to watch the anime. The time line is in order as I listed it. .hack has one of the deepest histories around!!!!

Uh.

If you want to know the 'history' as defined in my post, listing the timeline of the series is certainly not going to help e_e

I don't remember the premise and canon 'history' of The World, I don't even know if it was all released. The 'history' would be, really, Emma Weiland's story, which was the premise for Fragments, right? Since we don't have a copy of that story, only some details, we probably won't know the storyline that makes 'The World' what it is.

So, I don't think that particular question will be answered yet ^^;

Just making sure it's clear that Infection isn't the name of the series of the games as a whole. It's only the name of the first game. The other three are Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine.

And....

*snap*

OH yeah... I decided to abuse my powerful moderator... umm... powers to CHANGE the name of this topic! People, it's LIMINALITY, not LUMINALITY. Liminality has to deal with the study of mankind's need to create boundaries for everything, Luminality is a horribly gramatically incorrect way of saying Luminosity, I bet, and that is the energy output from a lit object (ie, the sun... which gives out... bah. Nevermind. I don't want to remember the astronomy test from Wednesday... ^-^;; ) I'll shut up now. But it's Liminality! Liminality!

*unsnaps* Yes, this has been a stressful week. ^-^;; Don't mind me. n.n;;;

[Third major edit of the night. See? Edit your posts! It's fun! ^o^ No need for double posting here! ~.~]

I want to end any possible arguments on histories or anything before they start. There was indeed a misconception as to what was being said, so... I shall refer to all possible stances so that people won't need to argue and spam the board for the wrong answer! Yay!

You want a history of how the series runs, read this post- complete with detailed information on each part! ...well... save Another Story. ^-^; But since it's considered ep 27 of SIGN, that counts as SIGN. :p

If you want a detailed history of the game itself in the .hack world... Read this post! Took me a long time to write it! Please read it. It's amusing. You can probably find my typos in it. ^-^;; Because I typed that myself. Well, not really. I cut and pasted it from my .hack site, tho. :p ....and I DID type it up then! You can't copy and paste from Flash. ^-^;;

You want the timeline for The World itself? We don't know, but I'm betting it's gotta do with the Epitaph of the Twilight. 'What's that?' you say? Well, I'm not saying here. That's for another time. ~.~

Um.

As it's been stated that each Liminality episode comes with the game, and that there are 4 games, you don't need to let us know anything ^^; truthfully, most of us know that sort of thing already, and if we didn't know, we can always ask ^^;;;

Also, the Liminality episodes have names that are separate from the game it comes with. For instance, while .hack//Infection is the name of the first game, the first OAV is 'In the Case of Minase Mai'

That's something that might need to be cleared up.
