This topic was moved here because it has nothing to do with .hack.

Please keep in mind the rules before you post a new topic.

You'll need:

- A computer or account at a provider that will permit you to run an IRC server.
- Some sort of UNIX-based operating system (e.g. Linux or FreeBSD).
- IRC server software (I use DALnet's IRC server, with Epona for NickServ, etc.).
- Enough experience to keep the server, OS, and IRCd (IRC server) running, stable, and secure.

There are a number of companies who will take care of all of this for you, for a price. (I work for one of them.) It can be difficult to find a provider that allows IRC, since it's a service that tends to get abused and attacked unusually often. It's very difficult to get a server linked to a major network, such as DALnet or Undernet, since those servers and their providers are almost always the target of massive flooding attacks.

Isn't Dalnet on their own servers? Like they run from the owners house or something of the sort(their work)?
