6KB?

Post by Kama »

Why the hell is the avatar file size max 6 KB?

You cannot make a good avatar with 6 KB..it would have to be greyscaled, color degraded, tiny, and compressed to all uglyness.

Why not just raise it to 20 KB? You may complain that it's not good for those with the lesser modems [56k] but saying 6 KB is just too little. Avatars that will really take up space are animated ones, and 20 KB isn't enough for an avatar that will really slow things down.

What are you using for your images then? Because I can make a 100x100 full, high color, 80% level jpg at around 5k easily. It only breaks 6k when I bring it up to 100%, and I rarely keep images that high anyway.

You can make a good avatar with 6KB. I mean, does my avatars suck?

We have the board set for auto censoring should it go any worse. ^____^ It's amusing when it goes into effect too. n.n

IMO it is tuffer to make awsome anamated avatars when the ristrictions get tuffer and tuffer. honestly i could only do half of my altimit animation i say 20k is a realy good limit. for evoryones avatar. and taller avatars would be nice like 100x150 or somthing.

100x100 is good, but to expand the avatar to 20k would be killer on bandwith. One users avatar at 20k might seemed to be not a big deal, but when a whole lot of users use 20k avatars, that leads to trouble., so maybe an increase to 10 or 13 at most would be good.

It may also be the problem that Avatars are hard to find for people? That may be it.

Hmm. Let me think about it.

... No.

No, we're not raising the avatar limit. If you want to show off your mad cool avatar art skills, we have a lovely little fan works forum just for that. The limit is what it is because we like it that way.

And also, as has been shown time and time again, true art is born when restrictions are heavy.

Be creative. You know you want to. ~_~

Hmm, even though democracy shows, socialism stands?

Now where did you get the idea that this is a democracy? ^^

This isn't America. This is a BBS hosted on a privately owned server. There is no democracy. We are in charge. We're open to hearing ideas, but there's no guarantee we'll like them or follow through.

However, you're under no obligation to be here, if what you find is unsatisfactory. If the avatar limit is a really big deal, then you might want to find some other board where you can have your higher quality avatars.

the avatar limit isn't really a big deal. But nazi moderators are the worst. being unable to comply with the masses is how dictatorships and dry boards form.
