Mireille vs. Mireiyu: The Noir Factor ^_^;

Post by Rhyste »

... that entire time we were talking about it at the LJ, at the back of my mind I was telling myself her name was Mireille and there was an anime that could prove it...

Today I suddenly remembered it: Noir
(only watched one episode, and that was about three months ago XD)

Anyway, Fansubbers have spelled Mireille's name "Mireiyu" before it was released by ADV, in which they spelled it "Mireille."

*twitch* A..D...V.... *dies*

*is the -VERY- anti-ADV person on the board* They also spell 'Kane' as 'Kain' Vorfeed as 'Volfied' and even change Neena's name to Sweetwater when it's Marcury in Lost Universe.... and the correct spellings are listed on the LU laserdiscs. Also... ADV didn't even use the original opening of Lost Universe. I know this is a .hack board, but.. this says why I don't trust anything from ADVision. -_^

I stopped trusting it when they started rewriting scripts with Slayers... I still don't trust them as they STILL rewrite stuff... and I probably won't trust them with upcoming projects. Not even Wild ARMs TV. I'm sticking with my Japanese DVDs. ~.~

I'll still stick with Mireiyu for now. n.n;;

*sweatdrop* Me too. ADV screws up so much stuff its not even funny anymore. I wish they'd take time to do things correctly. At least they're -sort of- getting better with translations, but not near fast enough. x.x They're the last company I'd ever buy from. But I stick with Mireiyu for now, until an official english name is released, from Bandai.

Eh, well... I figured it was offically romanized Mireille... because, uhm, don't the Japanese folks usually tell them the offical romanizations? I mean, wouldn't Balmung have become "Balmunk" because of the Katakana used in his name? :O I figured the developers had specificed to the translators? Or whatnot?

No. o.o Balmung is listed as 'Balmung' on the Japanese Cyberconnect site. o.o They have all the names romanized in there. In fact, all the SIGN names as well, with Ginkan even listed as 'Silver Knight'. I had a guess they would call 'em that in the US anyway, because of that being that way on the page for so long.

It's just that if you pronounce it as it should be, according to Norse mythology, it would still come up as 'Balmoonk' because of the pronounciation rules of the 'u' and the 'g'.

... I'm sorry, Tsu, but...

.... 'Balmoonk' is the stupidest looking name I've ever seen ^^;;

And as far as Mireiyu, the only official information on her right now has her listed as 'Mireiyu' and thus, that is her official name. Until it's translated and officially released as something different, that is her name, and most of us will probably continue to refer to her as thus.

Who knows how it will be romanized o.o

But I still haven't seen anything offical on how to spell Mireiyu's name. Just the kana.... so until I see it in print or on their page... Y'know? ^^;

It LOOKS stupid, but that's how you'd pronounce it! ;_; *flails*

Anyway... I was immensely impressed with Helba when I played the demo in English, btw... Because she DID pronounce it right. *giggles* Most people are just saying 'Balmung', which is... as it looks, yes... but not how it's pronounced. n.n

However... Let's just sit back and watch things go... See what everyone else comes up with. BUt for now, I'm sticking with Mireiyu.

"Balmoonk." :P Norse is quite funny. XD Or you could do it from a German PoV since the Nibelungenlied is supposed to be a Germanic retelling of the Volsung Saga. XD "Baal-mueng."

Heh... people still use .hack//dusk, even though Ms. Overrated Webmistress Subaru herself has actually changed her section to be called ".hack//Udeden." ^_^; There's not doubt you guys will still acutally refer to her as Mireiyu. ^_^;

*snerks* Yes... German is an... interesting language. @.@;; I miss what I forgot of the language, but it's hard to learn two and Japanese is taking up all my time. n.n;;

However... UdeDen sounds a LOT more natural than 'Dusk'. It's a common thing in Japanese to combine words together... like Beatmania becomes Bemani. UdeDen is obviously a combination of 'Udewa Densetsu'.

Then there's the nick that the Richland Anime Club has giving UdeDen: "Lugnut" as in the "Lugnut of Destruction", because of Shugo's bracelet. -_^ That's kind of the same idea of saying 'udeden', in the long run, actually. n.n

YAAAAAAAAAAAY GERMAN!!!

Öberaffengeil!! >D >D >D

Ahem. That spastic memory of German class over and done with, let's pull this topic back on.. err... topic, although, as it seems there's little more to be said regarding the subject matter at hand, this thread is over and done with, right?

o/~ Gotta keep it movin'~ Movin oooon~~ o/~

Oh, and let's be respectful regarding other people, shall we? Whatever opinions you have, let's not express them in a way that can and will be taken as insulting, if we possibly can. [/u]

Hmm.. how convoluted can we make it and still have it fit the katakana sounds?

INSERT ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROBLEMS!

Meereighyough is a sad, sad possibility.. though it looks more like something someone would gurgle in their death throes >.o;

Mierayiroo.. something like a cross between a cat, a cow, and a dog.

... A puchiguso?

*runs from Asmaria* ^o^

It's kinda like the problem with 'Nash', where some less than knowledgable person could possibly read it and think it said 'Natsushiu'

Just to comment for a moment on using romanizations from Japan... while they are the creators and they know what they want, I don't trust their ability to romanize, either. A debatable example is the Amelia/Ameria spelling from Slayers - the anime and the katakana imply one thing, but the romanization in the books is different and (at least in my opinion) incorrect.

Some of these translators could stand to read a little more, though. (How the hell does Sandalphon = Sundel, Sony? *cracks heads*) A lot more.

Is ADV the one that released the Slayers movies? Those killed me - I can't remember the dialog to save my life, but they destroyed the spells. Hearing "Dynast Bras" and seeing "Black Occult Circle," or whatever it was, really screwed my mind over. ><

Tired and bored are a baaaaaaaad combination.
