how would you describe .hack//sign??

Post by Krono »

... I'm trying to convince my friend to buy the DVDs, and I was just hoping to have you guys tell what you thought about them... or something....

personally (although I haven't seen the full series) I thought that .hack was a really interesting show that was sort of a character study for the character tsukasa. It's a really neat show about the said character. He is stuck inside a game called the world and unable to logout...

Believe me,its not easy to convince someone to go enjoy .hack//SIGN :/
Not that I blame them either when I first started watching the series,it starts off Real slow, even my friend is struggling to watch it,but she is starting to like it as it progresses later on;as to where the story is starting to get more interesting.Mainly, some people just complain about, the talking. Some people[who are still hooked on DBZ >>;] want more action than just talking. So that is why it is kinda hard to convince people ,who are already accustomed to examples such as DBZ or whatever anime they prefer that they have seen in america.Unless your friends have seen others animes that have not been shown here in US then, that is a bit more different. What I am trying to say is..its a bit more difficult to get people to watch .hack//SIGN,if they havent even seen other animes outside of the US,y'know?Even the idea of a person trapped inside a game, does draw interest at first glance, but its more of the peoples wants and what catches their eye. What caught my eye,was mainly the animation, the music[of course],the characters and how the story was..which for me,I didnt get hooked until episode 12.Thats where everything gets really weird ^^;This is just my opinion though, and I am not expert and such,so dont think this is correct information,it is just what I am assuming, nothing more.

Does your friend like online games? That might be enough if she does.

To describe it in a few words..

Slow.. and yet awesome. I'd watch it again if it wasn't so slow.. (maybe when summer comes up..)

.Hack is a show that has alot of deeper meaning. If you are a younger kid who wants a show with no intelligence but alot of action, this one isn't for you. Go watch Dragonball Z.
P.S. I broke 100!

It's only slow if you look at it from the surface. SIGN has a lot of deep underlying meanings. It does add an awesome perspective to things. It's a show that can trigger a lot of emotions. To me, the show becomes a new social environment. It's not your tipical show where you sit down and mindlessly absorb it all in. This one requires you to think, and draw your own explainations. That's how you become part of the social environment of the show.

maybe you should see if you can convince them to watch an anime they can get into faster first then maybe they would see that you have good taste and then might listen to...

and heck, I think .hack//sign had plenty of action... or maybe it was just the presence of weapons in every single scene........

I agree w/ nebu, I never found sign to be that lacking in action... there's usually one fight or adventure thing per episode...

Nope. DBZ's action is assly, and is not worth a recommendation.

Dragonball, on the other hand, while isn't intellectually stimulating, has far superior action sequences which are more intricately framed (especially in the Tien Saga). THAT series I would recommend to younger viewers.

I wouldn't say .hack//SIGN has a deeper meaning, but rather, it represents a deeper portrayal of its characters. It is a fully realized character study.

.hack//SIGN is also not everyone's cup of tea. Some people you simply cannot make enjoy the series, or even the games. It's a waste of time to try, if they continue to refuse.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Of course, we all think it's great, but it's along the lines of why some people don't like Eva. I don't hate it, but I don't think it's that great either, and I usually won't watch it if there's something else to do.

It's a matter of opinion. .hack//SIGN isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, so keep that in mind when people aren't interested.
