New altimit-os.net front page is looking awesome...

Post by Pipian »

However, with awesome on the one hand comes bloated and slow (especially for 56K users) on the other hand (dratted javascript). Nevertheless, it works flawlessly in Mozilla now (aside from the slowness), with an added skip intro button:

http://www.pipian.com/Project-Altimit/n ... /index.htm (the standard directory is buggy due tot he current apache setting)

Of course, IE can't move the window around or resize it right now. Mozilla can however.

I'll probably wanna start pre-loading images...

It should be fixed now, likely. Also, yes IE works now because I fixed it. And this site will eventually be used as the main altimit-os.net site (not necessarily Project: ALTIMIT).

It is still very much under construction however (I have yet to implement the start menu as well as minimizing.)

You should have a transparent window rather than the solid black.
Here's mine that I never updated in weeks.

http://www34.brinkster.com/altimit/

seeing people here interested in the OS, makes me wanta work on it again.

Also you'll need to have your resolution at 1024 x 768 to view it correctly

Well, transparent is more difficult to do. Mozilla can fake it pretty well by utilising another background, IE, on the other hand, can't, and the only way to fake it makes the text transparent as well.

NOTE TO SELF: FINISH THIS FOR A-KON.

Whee! A few new bugs and fixes since the last update! Check it out!

Again, resizing and moving works in both, but look! There's a new taskbar (buggy in IE, but functional)! The start menu needs coding, but the minimize button works! And you can restore from that too! Most of this code change is breaking apart the file into a .js and some .css files... The good part about this? Soon you'll get alternate colors! Also, the title bar is fixed in IE. Finally, the Javascript bug in IE was figured out (but not stopped). Apparently IE does not like those Unix formatted HTML, CSS, and Javascript files.

TO DO:

- Fix buggy taskbar in IE (spacing between "Start" and next button, and the disappearing <SPAN> that the window minimizes to)
- Stop the maximize button from misbehaving when in windowshade mode...
- Add Start button code
- Generalize window code for multiple windows (and add them)
- Make transparent window background (kludge it for IE)
- Optimize graphics and make them GIFs for the PNG-troubled... (looks in Tsukasa's direction)
- Figure out why the default Apache setting is causing index.js to appear before index.htm...

FUTURE

- Sounds? Not for a web version at any rate.
- Show off full-screen on a laptop at A-Kon...
- Make a simpler version without the frills for a low-bandwidth alternative
- Have it go live on altimit-os.net.

It's the DirectoryIndex directive in httpd.conf. ^_^
