The .hack//sign game?

I've been at the stores and I see the games,

.hack//Infection
and
.hack//Mutation

I've been wondering, do I HAVE to buy the first one and beat it to play the second? or not, and I was also wondering what is the name of the kid in Orange on the .Hack games

Er....you can check out more info about .hack from .hack related sites.Just check around the net.Its up to you really,but if you want to know how to get started,and know whats going on the series,especially the story itself,then yeah,you might want to start with .hack//Infection or Volume 1,as they call it.The boy you refer to the one wearing Orange,is Kite.He is the main character of the game.

You don't HAVE to buy the first game to play the second, although it's recommended you play the first to get the story completely.

If you, say, buy volume 2 and never beat (yes, BEAT, not just play) volume 1, you simply start a new game. It'll start you off where volume 2 would begin with decent items and all the players you could have gotten in volume 1.

However, if you did beat volume 1 and buy volume 2, you'll want to choose the Convert option in the front screen (with New, Load, Options). Then choose your BEATEN game save file. Once you've done that, it'll bring your items, your characters, their stats/levels, and completed quests to volume 2 and you can resume the .hack story.

And the kid is Kite.

Though you can start with either, I definentally recomend playing and BEATING Volume 1 ( .Hack//Infection). It will help with Volume 2 (.Hack//Mutation) alot. And though you may say: "Darn it! I just want to play the second!" Try volume 1. It's a great game and you'll really enjoy it.

P.S. : -Orange kid = Kite (main character).

Another advantage is that it is rather likely that they will bring .hack//Gift over here to america, which requires you to have beaten all four games with the same game save in order to view it.

Has anyone trued converting saved games that had not yet beaten the boss? I know there was something about enabling the save file but that was awhile ago and kind of forgot. ^_^;

Upon beating the game, it attaches a "Data Flag", which makes your save game text yellow. This indicates that you've indeed have beaten the game and allowed to move on to the next volume with your stats and stuff.
