1: Trailer Summary
2: Trailer Translation
3: The confirmed classes of the phases as read from the official site.
4: Other characters
5: Miscelaneous information splurge! (New!)

1:Trailer Summary.

The scene starts out with a conversation. Haseo's voice mentions 'Tri-Edge' and PK, while another person talks icredously. The blackness disappears, and we're treated to Haseo holding someone hostage. The PC mentions something about the BBS(You shouldn't believe those tales on the BBS!).

Haseo seems displeased at what the PC had to say, and executes her.

Yada yada flashy words and background. (Translation downstairs)

Cue what seems to be a flashback scene. 'New' Haseo (He lacks his super armour) turns around to thank someone, only to find someone pointing a sword to his neck. Thus, he was rudely introduced into the world of PKing.

Many scenes follow, including conversations with Ovan. It seems this might be what brought Haseo his hatred for PKers. (And possibly why he's looking for Tri-Edge?)
In one of the scenes, someone shouts, pointing at Haseo (OMG TEH PKK!), indicating he's earned himself quite the reputation.

Flashy words. Yada.

We're then treated to an introduction of each Phase NPC, with an artwork after each part. (Man, I'm never gonna able to look at Tarvos the Avenger the same way ever again. >_< Skimpy glasses girl wearing a tie... Talk about fetish-influenced...)

Several gameplay screens follow.

Finally, an extended version of the infamous Tri-Edge scene. In the extended version, there's actual dialogue.
The A-Tone fills the air, and Haseo looks around in confusion. A purple ball suddenly explodes in his face, revealing his nemesis... Haseo speaks 'Tri-Edge...!' in recognition of the distorted Kite figure that walks out of the explosion. Another part of the extended version is that after his Chain-Sword got deflected (And Haseo getting tossed off like a rag doll), Haseo looks up at Tri-Edge, who seems to have a smirk on his face... (Laughter?)

Haseo screams "I'm not done yet!!", swings out his scythe, only to have Tri-Edge suddenly pull the weapon away and DESTROY it with some unknown force (He uses his hand).

Tri-Edge then grabs Haseo's face, and in a Protect-Break explosion, Haseo is thrown back, now completely defenceless.

Which brings the next event:

Cue Data-Drain sequence.

Some interesting flashes follow, and the volume titles are announced. Volume 1 will be titled 'Resurrection', for what I believe is a blantantly obvious reason. (Halo thar phase, halo thar Tri-Edge?)

One of the more interesting flashes is a well-shown clip of Haseo being engulfed in data and becoming what appears to be a newer version of Skeith.

End.

2: Trailer translation: Apparently, it was on the dothackers.net board all along. Darn me and my short-sightedness.

All credit to Shinsou Wotan.

Speculation: Looking at the translations, a new theory has bound itself in my head- These people are the FUSIONS of the Phase and Real People. Why would they fuse with the Phase? A pursuit of power? Status? Who knows?

And Tri-Edge is a manifestation of Cubia, built from the gazillion copies made in its database, intent on removing the vestiges of the Phase once and for all.

3: The confirmed classes of the phases as read from the official site.

Haseo: Maruchi Uepon "Multi-Weapon"
Atoli: Haabuesuto "Harvest"
Kuhn: Suchiimugannaa "Steam Gunner"
Yata: Dansumakaburu "Dance Macabre
Sakubo: Uoorokku "Warlock"
Endrance: Bureedo "Blade"
Pai: Gurappuraa "Grappler"
Ovan: Suchiimugannaa "Steam Gunner"

It would appear these new classes have 'phased out' (Pun unintentional) the old classes.

4: Other Characters.

5: Random miscelaneous information splurge! (New!)

The World R:2
According to information in Dengeki Playstation magazine, R:2 (an updated version of The World from the previous media) has three major clan powers.

"The Liberal Arvak" - The Sun
Arvak is made up of humans. Their liberal way of thinking suits their steam engines. They are ememies with the Ogmios. Their leader is Ishmael, a human male. Their symbol mark is "the shining sun".

"The Conservative Ogmios" - The Judgement
Ogmios is made up of the beast people (perhaps Gaspard may be part of this clan). Their conservative attitude is shown in their crest-based techniques. Their leader is Beep Bope, a female from the catlike "U" tribe. Their symbol mark is "a giant gate and magic circle."

"The Aspiring Teutates" - The Fool
Members of this clan consist of both races. As a neutral party, they trade with the two opposing factions, suppying them with arms and firepower. Their leader is a young human named Al Azif. Their symbol mark is a "fiercely roaring lion and magic staff"

Cities are controlled by certain factions. Mac Anu is controlled by the Arvak. In addition, the two guilds Kestrel and Moon-tree are steadily becoming major powers. Kestrel has over 5000 members. Bordeaux and her party are members of this PK-condoning faction. Moon-tree has less than 1000 members. However, with their military-style organization, they cover their numerical inferiority with superior strategy. Sakaki and his group belong to this guild. These groups play a major role in the world of G.U. Their actions shape The World, and most players end up taking one side or another in their conflicts.

-The Serpent of Knowledge-
"Welcome to the 'Serpent of Knowledge', Haseo-kun" According to this screencap from the official site, it would appear that the room Yata is seen in is called the "Serpent of Knowledge" (or "Snake of Knowledge"). According to this site, "Snake of Knowledge" in literature is an interpetation of Uroboros, and the "Gate of Uroboros" is given in the first trailer as a possible interpetation of "G.U." Yata appears to be in front of a gate of some sort made out of a serpent biting its own tail (the definition of Uroboros), so what could this all mean?

-Lost Ground-
In addition to the Serpent of Knowledge, "forgotten areas" known as "Lost Ground" are known to exist. Two have been revealed. One is the great waterfall Arche (Bln, called "the land of origins"). The other is the great hall of Grima Lave, called "that which hides heaven". The later is the church previously seen in Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground, and Tri-Edge is said to appear there.

[Note: Arche? Arche Kolin? The place mentioned in the Epitaph?]
[Note2: Tri-Edge's symbol is on the pedestal where Aura's statue used to be. Could that be his home base?]

-Saku and Bo-
"What's your problem? Don't just stare at people like that!" According to the Japanese G.U. BBS, Sakubo switches between two forms, Saku and Bo. The former is the outgoing one, the latter is the introverted one.

This should cover much of what was in the first G.U. magazine, although the source has been indirectly translated as stated by Kuukai. There are three separate stories in the magazine also. "G.U.+" is a manga that revolves around Haseo. "CELL" is a novel about a Brandish called either Aoi or Midori, who meets Haseo. ".hack//GnU" is a more lighthearted manga about a Blade named Raid who joins Moon-tree and finds... not quite what he expects. The second G.U. magazine is due out January 26th.

That's all for today. Remember, credit goes to dothackers.net and certain other places on the net where I lurk. None of this is found out by myself. >_>

Speculation: Haseo intended to find Tri-Edge, but it is unknown what his motives are. Maybe it's because Tri-Edge is known as the Ultimate PK, and driven by his hatred for PKers, Haseo wishes to destroy Tri-Edge?
Haseo shows innocence before he met a PK... I'm thinking it's because he was a newborn 'AI' during that part.
I think it might be that Haseo found tri-edge by accident in the sacred zone, and was looking instead for that girl whose face is hidden by white light. in the first version of the trailer, as he walks up to the alter, it shows a very fast flashback of that girl walking past him, only he's the "friendly looking" haseo. I think the two versions of Haseo are either VERY modified versions of each other, or more likely simply two different PCs played by the same person. Though the fact that the armour is deffernent means very little, if you look at the paint on thier faces, they even have different wave attributes (i think nice haseo has thunder while the other one has darkness). Maybe haseo just got fed up with himself and his friends getting hastled by player killers, and he created a seperate PC and became known as the terror of death and a PKK. only then after his battle with tri-edge, his advanced PC was destroyed, and he is left with only the weaker one, and has to find out whats going on with Tri-edge.

if the main charecters have names like those of the 8 phases, maybe thier existence winthin the world called tri-edge into being (since he looks like kite, who defeated the phases)?

Well, thing is, last I remembered, people who get DD'd go into a coma. Only people who don't are DD'd people and/or AIs.

The reason I thought Haseo was looking for Tri-Edge was because he was talking about Tri-Edge in the beginning with that guy/girl person he then killed. Granted, I haven't watched the English Subbed trailer, but I don't think it would stray too much.

Either that or I'm blissfully in denial.

Dothackers.net claimed to have updated their trailers with English Subs.

On another note, the last thing Haseo says in the trailer appears to be "I've come...SKEEEIIITHHH!!!"

Wow, thanks for the info meultima sama *goes to watch trailer again*.
Man, there are so many possibilities with the story this time around. I'm really psyched! On a side note, I heard a rumor that //G.U. actually stands for Grow Up. Can anyone confirm this?
Lycoris: What is the name of your spear?
Alberio: It is the Divine Spear of Wotan.
Lycoris: It is a Spear of God.

*yawns* Yeah, I'll update about the trailer soon  XD...glad someone else did it though; I was totally wrapped up with Ghost in the Shell X_X. Like, since the new book just came out, I had to go watch the 2 movies again and find 'links'. Anyway, with each trailer released, the game just keeps looking better and better! I just really hope that there's going to be a 'Mia-link' in this game.
As you can tell simply by looking at Endrance, he/she has a little Mia doll on their shoulder. Running with the theory that these people are fusions of the phases, wouldn't that present a problem with Mia? That would mean that she'd have to become Macha, The Temptress again. The reason I say that is because Mia's data and Macha's data, while one exists within the other, are completly different. Or maybe Mia simply became that little doll-looking version of her that's on Endrance's shoulder.
You're welcome. ;)

Anyway, it would seem that the main -theme- would be Grow Up, as confirmed in an interview, but as to the meaning of GU itself, that is ambiguious. 'Grow Up' itself refers to multiple things, including the maturing of the game/series itself, as well as innovation in terms of gameplay, among other things.

Anyway, the reason I brought forward that theory was because of the mention of "8 people in the 2 worlds"... And Haseo shouting "I'm here...SKEIITH!!" sounds like he's calling Skeith for some reason...
Speaking of which, the new redesign of Skeith looks pretty awesome, but he's missing that AWESOME STAFF. >_<

Although Endrance is SERIOUSLY suspicious. Not only does he(I'm really sure it's a guy, no curves...) have a cat on his shoulder, he's bouncing about this dark matter ball in his hands and saying "Isn't it pathetic? You have no real power within you." as though what he has is -the- BIG stuff. Furthermore, I'm sure that's him shooting that ginormous black beam around the time "Vol 2" flashes on screen.

The one 'phase' I'm really intent on watching, though, is Sakubo. How the crap does she switch between those two PCs, or are there two Sakubo present at the same time? It's creepy.

About the whole Mia/Endrance thing.
They probably decided to make her data separate somehow. Like one form would become Mia and the other would be The Temptress. That way they can be two different people.
Thought I'd put it in spolier tags just to be safe.

I think I'll just add it here, an insight some friend told me. Something a Japanese would see rightaway, but not us XD;; G.U., when read in Japanese, reads "Jiyuu", which may stand for "Freedom". I havent seen this mentioned anywhere in the GU Forum :3 I suspect maybe this is a story about phases liberation XD;;

.hack//G.U. Pre-Release FAQ Ver. 3.0
This is a GU Pre-Release FAQ created by Revosku several months ago but I’ve decided to update and post it because the last topic got purged.

n00bs/trolls: Get the hell of this board.
Newbs: Ask questions
Veterans: Feel free to add anything I missed.

Warning: There may be spoilers for the .hack//Games series (.hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, .hack//Outbreak, .hack//Quarantine) and any of the other .hack series such as .hack//Sign, .hack//AI Buster, etc.

Version History
---------------------
-Version 0.8-

-Version 1.7-
Updated the .hack//Timeline and make the game summaries more comprehensible and not based on the Ryu Book Movies.

-Version 2.7-
Updating most things since the Tokyo Game Show.

-Version 3.0-
Updated a crap load of stuff like character bios, GU info, FAQ and Timeline. -Kulaguy

1. Main Purpose
This FAQ is to try to sum up what we know about G.U, and try to help out the increasingly number of new people to this board. This may also help you new guys at least try not to piss off those feisty veterans. And for those lazy asses trying to skip out on actually playing the four games, this guide is for you too. All that copyright stuff apply, and all rights are reserved, blah blah blah blah.

2. Media

3. Current Information
There are to be 3 .hack//GU games. Here are the titles:

.hack//GU Volume 1: Resurrection
.hack//GU Volume 2: A Voice of You
.hack//GU Volume 3: At Walking Distance

Nothing is known about the other 2 GU games so do not bother asking.

The first volume of GU occurs 7 years after the end of Quarantine, meaning 3 years after Udeden. GU stands for Grow Up but there are 12 more meanings within the game. From what we’ve seen from the two trailers and other things, the game is about a Player Killer Killer (PKK) named Haseo with the power to wield all weapons and armor in the game. It is unknown how he obtained this ability; whether by reaching the 4th level of character classes or hacking is character remains to be discovered. It seems that a friend of his named Atoli was data drained by a Kite-like character at Delta: Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground and Haseo wants revenge.

When he arrives there, the Aura statue is gone, the chains hang near the walls and the altar in the middle of the pathway is gone. Haseo faces this Kite-like character but is easily defeated and data drained. We then see Haseo’s armor disappearing and he is in a blue area. He is being covered in green hexagons, like the data bugs have, and is heard yelling “I am here, Skeith!! and also “AURA!!! A deformed Skeith then appears. It is unknown if Skeith fuses with Haseo. It is unknown if the other Phases will make an appearance. According to the official sites, the Kite-like character is named Tri-Edge but many vets still call him Shadow Kite, Demon Kite, etc. It is unknown if this is really Kite.

GU’s battle system has significantly improved. In the 2nd trailer, we see some gameplay clips and it seems to use the Tales of Symphonia battle system. The character boxes have now been reduced to small rectangles located at the bottom left corner of the screen. The mini map is at the top left of the screen. The graphics are cel-shaded. There is a tension bar that seems to be a trigger for special moves.

All .hack//GU games have been confirmed to be released in 2006 in Japan. Not at the same time, mind you. During E3 2005, GU was said to have been 60%+ completed. There is supposed to be a .hack//GU magazine to be released in Japan called “.hack//GU: The World in November 26, 2005. There is said to be 68 pages and part of it will be a GU manga. I forgot how many volumes will be made.

The first hint of GU we had was during Quarantine. If you talked to A-Kichi, she would say “I wonder what The World will be like in 7 years. Another hint of GU we got were the 3 pages in the Udeden manga and having it end with the letters GU.

Also, if you have all 4 Data Flags from the .hack//Games, it is said to unlock something special in the game but it’s currently unknown. The majority of the vets speculate it’s a hot spring side-quest like in GIFT but most likely it’s not. V_V

4. .hack// GU Characters

Please Note: Just because they have the same titles as the 8 Phases from the .hack//Game does not mean they are the same. They are just titles for them at this point in time. Also note that there has been some weird classes for these characters but there has been no official source to have said it and seems to be just rumors. Thank you.

Haseo
~The Terror of Death
Haseo is the main character in G.U. and seems to have a variety of classes. His weapons that have been seen are twin blades, a scythe, a weird looking hammer, a chainsaw and other things. He also omits a flash from his hand, which could be a new magic attack. Haseo appears to have three costumes. His first costume appears to be a weaker, more body-revealing, twin blade form. And his second one seems to be a black spike armored and his third one seems to be the same as the second one but green. Some people speculate that it’s Sora in a new character because of the whole Skeith thing but the voices of Sora and Haseo are different. Something to beat this rebuttal is that Sora could have gone through puberty since GU occurs 7 years after the end of Quarantine. >_> Not much else is known.

Atoli
~The Mirage of Deceit
She seems to have relations to Haseo and is seen with him in the church and also seems to be tailing Haseo at a root town. She also looks to have been data drained by Shadow Kite. Pics can be seen in the .hack//Lessons. It is assumed that she is a WaveMaster or Scroll Castor. Not much else is known about her.

Kuhn
~The Propagation
Kuhn can be seen battling along Haseo. He wields a weapon that looks like Tidus’s Brotherhood sword from FFX. It is assumed that he is a BladeMaster. Not much is known about him.

Yata
~The Prophet
A monk-like figure. He wields two fans so he could be a TwinBlade. Not much is known about him.

Sakubo
~The Machinator
She seems to be or have two split figures. Whether they appear at the same time, or they are within the same avatar is unknown. She uses a spell book so she might be a new class or a Scroll Castor. Not much is known about her.

Endrance
~The Temptress
She seems to be holding a cloud of "shadowness" in her hand in the trailer. She has a cat on her shoulder. There has been a huge debate on whether or not Endrance is a man or woman. Some people think it’s a guy using the logic because of the flat chest but that logic is beaten because it’s like saying all prepubescent girls are boys. Some even say it’s a bishounen because of the feminine qualities. Most likely it’s a girl because of the voice. May have relation to Mia/Maha/Phase 6 because of the cat on her shoulders. Some even say it’s Elk in a new character and the cat is a new form Mia but it is purely speculation. Assumed to be a BladeMaster or HeavyBlade.

Pai
~The Avenger
She looks like a school teacher in skimpy clothing. She is seen battling along Haseo and Kuhn. Not much is known about her. She has no weapons so she seems to be a Melee Fighter; the class Ouka from Udeden has but without the Werewolf. Because Ouka and Pai sort of look alike from their skimpy clothing to their bouncing breasts, some speculate she’s a new character of Ouka’s.

Ovan
~The Rebirth
The guy with the huge arm cannon. He seems to be badass like Auron from his calm behavior to the cool shades (=P Souten). He might be a mentor of Haseo. Ovan has a sword like Endrance’s so he could be of the BladeMaster or HeavyBlade classes and the arm is just part of his character. He could also be a new class altogether.

Tri-Edge
~Shadow Kite
A character that looks like Kite but more screwed up looking. He has been dubbed Shadow Kite by some fans. If this really was Kite, then Kite would be 21 years old. He is missing the same piece of the Bracelet that broke off from Kite’s Bracelet. This leads some fans to speculate he is a reincarnation of Cubia.

Gaspard
~Dog looking character
A character that looks like a human/dog hybrid. Could be a new class like the Werewolf. He holds a spell book like Sakubo but has a dagger. Nothing is known except that he’s pretty short and fat. Think of him as the Piros of the GU games.

Silabus
~Man or woman?
Yet again, another character where the gender is a mystery. Most likely a woman because of the long hair and she could also be a BladeMaster. Nothing else is known.

Sakaki
~Another mentor?
This character is seen a few times talking to Haseo and he looks to be another mentor of Haseo. The large sword he carries behind his back makes him seem to be a HeavyBlade. Not much else is known about him.

.hack//Game Series Characters
(.hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, .hack//Outbreak, .hack//Quarantine)

Kite
Game World Self
A Twin Blade that gains the ability to Data Drain when he used the Book of Twilight. He journeys to find a way to get his friend Orca out of a coma. Later known as Kite of the Azure Flame.
Real World Self
A 14 year old that began playing The World thanks to Yasuhiko. Kite is you, whether you are a boy or girl, he is still you. He/she is 21 years old during GU.

BlackRose
Game World Self
A female HeavyBlade that began playing The World to help her brother Kazu recover from a coma. She joins your party early on in the game. A love triangle forms between Kite, BlackRose and Terashima Ryoko in .hack//Outbreak.
Real World Self
A 15 year old sophomore girl that likes sports and spectator activities. According to the English version she lived in Malibu as a child and became known as "The Mermaid" all around her school. She is 22 years old during GU.

Orca
Game World Self
A male BladeMaster that gains the title Orca of the Azure Sea by beating the One Sin event (describe in AI Buster) but falls into a coma in Infection. By beating the One Sin event, he gained a mod that allowed him to have wings but decided to give it to Balmung instead.
Real World Self
A boy named Yasuhiko and a friend of Kite’s. He might be 14 years old so he could be 21 during GU.

Balmung
Game World Self
A male BladeMaster that gains the title Balmung of the Azure Sky by beating the One Sin event. He is one of the few people to have played the beat version of The World, Fragment. He gained a mod that allowed him to have fully functional wings from Orca. At first he is against Kite starting in .hack//Infection because Kite has the same ability (Data Drain) that put Orca in a coma but Balmung would later join Kite’s party in .hack//Outbreak. Later becomes an admin sometime after Unison but quits during Udeden.
Real World Self
Not much is known about Balmung’s real life self. A picture of him was shown at the end of volume 3 of Udeden but he had his back turned. He is speculated to be in his early 20's during the game so by GU, he might be around his late 20's to early 30's.

Terajima Ryoko
Game World Self
A newbie who just recently started playing the World. She is the sincere type… not much else to say about her. Her character has functional wings that her dad either paid the programmers to put in or did himself. I forgot which. Terajima has been claimed by kulaguy
Real World Self
She is a Junior in class 8 at Saiba High School, a very expensive all female school. She said her next school field trip will be going north to see the Auroras and then to Hawaii to thaw out. She used her real name by accident and told Kite he’s the only male friend she has. She might be 23 years old in GU.

Nuke Usagimaru
Game World Self
A Long Arm who is holding his own show called the “Nuke Usagimaru Show in one of the dungeons. He's an actor, and is vibrant in his color scheme for his character.
Real World Self
A guy who’s name is supposedly Nuke Usagimaru. He seems to be in his late teens to early 20's so he might be in his late 20's to early 30's during GU. He said that he wants to be a stand up comic and claims that comics are well read so he begins working on the dictionary. He’s up to the C’s but is afraid he’ll have to start all over again when the new edition comes out. XD

Natsume
Game World Self
She is a newbie who does whatever she can to level up and believes almost everything on the BBS. Natsume has been claimed by OtakuD50
Real World Self
She is a 15 year old girl working as a librarian. Most likely will be 22 years old in GU. She likes science fiction books, especially Lord of the Rings. She occasionally cooks but mostly easier things like cheeseburgers and spaghetti. She started playing The World to change her personality and mistakenly sent an email to Kite meant for BlackRose saying how much cooler she was than her and how Kite maybe likes BlackRose more than her.

Rachel
Game World Self
She is obsessed over money and forces Kite to do many things just so she can get some quick cash in The World. She gives up on many of her money making schemes because people only used it since it was so silly.
Real World Self
A 19 year old girl with a part time job. She wants to be an Editor In Chief someday so she can have Chief in her title. She learned how to play badminton during high school and had to pay for her own bike because her parents accused her of being cheap, though, it sorta is true. She will most likely be 26 during GU.

Marlo
Game World Self
He's a rude Blademaster who posts a challenge to Kite on the Board, but eventually ends up trying to help Kite. He likes skulls a lot by the appearance of his outfit. He loves fighting monsters that are a lot stronger than him and holds a grudge to anyone who runs away from battle.
Real World Self
A loner that’s satisfied knowing he’s a tough guy wannabe. He likes to take a hot shower at the end of the day and then drink beer on an empty stomach. Considering he drinks, he’s probably in his early 20's so he might be in his late 20's to early 30's during GU.

Moonstone
Game World Self
He is the stereotypical silent type. He's also a Twin Blade who is obsessed with leveling up and getting stronger.
Real World Self
He only talks about his workout schedules to Kite and then about a puppy that follows him. He says it’s distracting but when the puppy stops showing up, he becomes concerned for it. I am unsure of his age but most likely he’s in his 20's during GU.

Gardenia
Game World Self
She is a silent long arm who appears tough. She also likes flowers a lot. She has her own fan club. You must be strong in order to be recognized by her.
Real World Self
She is a very contained woman that likes eating raw octopus, Hong Kong movies, cats and flowers. She was one of the players that controlled Mimika. Gardenia is 19 during the flashbacks of Intermezzo so that means she was around 22 during Quarantine. So in GU, she’s gotta be around 29 years old.

Sanjuro
Game World Self
He is searching for all the katana in The World. He looks like a cross between a pirate and a samurai. XD
Real World Self
An American living in South Dakota, and giving volunteer Japanese lessons to local children. One of his students is Hotaru from Udeden. Sanjuro has taken his name from the Toshiro Mifune movie, Yojimbo, and really likes watching "Hidden Fortress". Sanjuro seems to be in his early to mid 20's during Quarantine so he might be around late 20's to mid 30's in GU.

Piros
Game World Self
Possibly the most annoying user ever. He talks in a strange fashion which seems to be a form of Old English and is easily tricked. He believes he is the hero of the game.
Real World Self
He might be a graphic designer at CC Corp. playing The World secretly. In Outbreak, he claims that he couldn’t log in because he didn’t pay his server fees. I am unsure of his age but if I had to take a guess, I’d say he’s be in his 30's during GU.

Wiseman
Game World Self
A Wavemaster who possesses information on the "Epitaph of Twilight." He is smart and wants to buy virus cores from other players at extreme prices.
Real World Self
A 9 year old that is an avid fan of the Digimon Trading Card Game and also the leader of his local club. He should be 16 during GU.

Mistral
Game World Self
Mistral is the eccentric type obsessed over collecting rare items.
Real World Self
A pregnant housewife in her 20's. She enjoys cooking but isn’t very good at it. She in unavailable during Quarantine because she has to go to the hospital but when she comes back in Quarantine, she hasn’t had the baby yet. The baby in question is a girl named Mirei that would later take over her mother’s character and rename it Mireille at a name changing event.

Helba
Game World Self
Helba is a hacker helping Kite. She is one of the first to notice The World is acting strangely. She eventually joins his party in the end... after the ordeal is done with. She saves Kite from being Data Drained in the beginning.
Real World Self
Not much is known about the real Helba. It’s been confirmed her real life self is the woman dancing in the red plug suit in the SIGN opening. She might be in her 30's when GU occurs.

Subaru
This covers the Subaru that joins Kite in Quarantine. This Subaru is only an AI created from data fragments from Net Slum. Subaru has been claimed by Forte V4

Tsukasa
This covers the Tsukasa that joins Kite in Quarantine. This Tsukasa is only an AI created from data fragments from Net Slum. Such an angsty little guy, isn’t he?

Sora
Game World Self
This covers both the AI and real Sora in .hack. The real Sora was data drained into a coma by Morganna and sealed in Skeith’s Red Wand. He is released in Outbreak but revives from his coma after the fight with Corbenik. The AI Sora was created by Morganna during ZERO to find Aura and he PKed many players along the way. He is eventually defeated by Curl and joins Kite’s team during Quarantine. He did not speak 1337 in the Japanese version.
Real World Self
The AI Sora does not exist outside the world. The real Sora is a 9 year old 4th grader and so he’s 16 during GU.

Elk
Game World Self
A Wavemaster with an obsession for Aromatic Grass and hangs out with Mia. He eventually gets mad at Kite for killing Mia/Macha/Maha, but saves Kite from being Data Drained towards the end.
Real World Self
Nothing is known. It is speculated he is a teenage boy around 15 years old but nothing has been confirmed.

Mia
An AI player with a cat-like appearance who often hangs out with Elk because he bares a strong resemblance to Tsukasa. She is a reincarnation of Macha from SIGN. A detailed explanation of this can be found in one of the .hack//Lessons.

Lios
Game World Self
Lios is a system administrator who thinks that the happenings of the world is caused by a virus made by hackers, but eventually helps Kite and joins up with Helba. He is "pig-headed".
Real World Self
A system admin probably in his mid 30's. He’s probably in his early 40's during GU if he ever appears.

Cubia
The other side of the Bracelet. Will do the opposite of the Bracelet. More details in one of the .hack//Lessons.

Morganna
An AI that was to give birth to Aura. When she found out that Aura would data drain and absorb her after being born, she tries to screw her up so that she never wakes up. More details in one of the .hack//Lessons.

Aura
The “soul of The World, if you will. She is everywhere yet nowhere. She is the ultimate AI and is complete at the end of Quarantine. What else is there to say?

6. .hack//Game Summaries
Here is a new, more comprehensible guide to the .hack//Games summaries. Now there is just subsections on different subjects and aspects of the .hack//Games. Thanks to WHO ELSE? Kulaguy for some of the information.

SPOILER ALERT!

Data Drain
-After Orca is Data Drained, Kite receives a book that was originally given to Orca by Aura. When Blackrose asks Kite to take her to the church, he gains the ability that put his friend in a coma, Data Drain. Data Drain is an amazing ability that has the power to rewrite data. There are four variations of Data Drain given to Kite:

Data Drain
Drain Arc
2128 Drain
Drain Heart

Drain Arc and Drain Heart Data Drains multiple enemies. Drain Heart and 2128 Drain has a higher chance of getting rare items from enemies. There's also a catch to Data Draining; Infection Level. The more Kite uses Data Drain, the higher the Infection Level becomes. If it becomes too high it can actually give you a Game Over. Storyline-wise, there is only Data Drain and Drain Heart. The rest are just there for gameplay reasons.

Aura tells Kite to not fight Cubia because if he succeeds in defeating Cubia, then Kite's bracelet will also be destroyed. This is because Cubia and the Bracelet are like opposite sides of a coin. Kite destroys Cubia, Kite destroys bracelet. Simple, right? But on a chance encounter, Kite and Blackrose are sent downwards and find Cubia, and it looks like Kite nor Cubia is going to run away.

Eventually Kite asks Blackrose to destroy his bracelet when they are in a grim situation. When Cubia heals himself fully just after Kite and Blackrose are so close to defeating it, Kite realizes that it just might be impossible for them to destroy Cubia. But since destroying Cubia would destroy the bracelet, vice-versa would of course be true. After persuading Blackrose to strike his bracelet, Cubia disappears along with Kite's bracelet.

Now all your party members, Helba and Lios meet at Net Slum. During the meeting, Corbenik attacks. Corbenik has Supreme Defense but the comatose victims pop out of nowhere and destroy it. When it’s almost defeated, it “fuses with Morganna, so to say, and transforms into an eye. Pretty much everything gets screwed now. Morganna uses Drain Heart on everybody, sending ALL your party members into comas and just when one is about to hit Kite, Elk jumps in the way and saves him. Kite is all that’s left and decides to deal one final blow to Morganna. He dodges a crap load of Drain Hearts, which meant that Elk’s sacrifice was a waste -_-, and right when he’s about to hit Morganna, Aura gets in the way.

Aura is stabbed and killed and now complete. That’s because Aura needed to be born and killed to be complete. Note that if Aura did not fly in the way, the attack would have done nothing and Kite would been screwed. Morganna is defeated and everybody is revived. The Omega Server is restored, Aura is reborn, Kite gets a new Bracelet and Mia is reborn in the bottom of a 15 floor, data bug infested dungeon. Kite saves Mia but she does not remember anything after just before meeting Kite.

7. .hack//Timeline
Here is a timeline of the events of .hack. Note that this only shows the order of the .hack series and does not give dates or stuff that happens in the real world side of .hack. I also received help from Souten a long time ago for this.

.hack//Intermezzo (Flashbacks)
The flashbacks of Intermezzo involves Mimiru meeting a Long Arm named Mimika who is controlled by 3 girls. One of the girls later goes on to make the character Gardenia and joins you in the .hack//Games.

~A little less than 2 years pass

.hack//AI Buster, .hack//AI Buster 2 (2nd Character)
.hack//AI Buster takes place early in The World. About a debugger name Albireo, a failed version of Aura and a female WaveMaster named Hokuto. Currently translated in English by Tokyopop. The chapter "2nd Character" from AI Buster 2 is simultaneous with the original AI Buster. This is the same story, from Hokuto's point of view.

~A few months pass, it's never been said how long exactly.

.hack//SIGN, .hack//AI Buster 2 (Wotan's Spear)
An anime about a WaveMaster named Tsukasa who gets trapped in The World. This series flows over a 6 month time period. The chapter "Wotan's Spear" from AI Buster 2 is simultaneous with the first few episodes of SIGN. It is in the point of view of Albireo and since he is an administrator, he does what he can to stop Maha, though, it fails.

~Directly after..

.hack//ZERO
Novel about a Long Arm named Curl and her quest against defeating an AI Sora. Currently only available in Japanese. This novel flows over a 6 month period

A few months pass but it's never said how long exactly

.hack//Intermezzo (Non-flashbacks)
The actual episode of Intermezzo not involving the flashbacks has Mimiru and Bear exploring a dungeon that was opened after being closed for a long time. It is never said how long after SIGN this occurs.

.hack//ZERO 2
It's unknown when it takes place, just because it's part 2 doesn't mean it'll directly follow the first, though it most likely will be because Zero's story was incomplete when it ended. Not much is known about this. It hasn’t been released in Japan yet.

~Directly after ZERO... actually ZERO flows into Liminality. Proof is Mai sees a player that happens to be the Sora Morganna created to get Aura.

.hack//Games, .hack//Liminality, .hack//Another Birth
The Games are about a Twin Blade named Kite and his journey on to bringing his friend Orca out of a coma. .hack//Another Birth is a novel series about the .hack//Games through the point of view of BlackRose. .hack//Another Birth is currently only available in Japanese. The Games and Another Birth happen over a 9 month time period while Liminality occurs in certain parts of this 9 month period.

~A few months after

.hack//Unison
Episode 28 of SIGN. An episode of some of the Game characters meeting some of the SIGN characters and having a party at Net Slum.

~3 years after..

.hack//AI Buster 2 (Kamui), .hack//AI Buster 2 (Rumor)
The chapter "Kamui" from AI Buster 2 provides backstory on Kamui as commander of the Cobalt Knights. The chapter "Rumor" from AI Buster 2 tells about Rena's first character, Brigit, a female BladeMaster, and how she learned of the Legendary Dot Hackers from the player, Rumor, who speaks in 3rd person. Rumor is the WaveMaster next to Hokuto in the last part of Volume 3 of the Udeden manga.

~Around 1 year later

.hack//AI Buster 2 (Firefly)
The chapter "Firefly" from AI Buster 2 tells about how Hotaru started playing The World and how she met up with Sanjuro.

~Directly after

.hack//UdeDen.. aka Legend of the Twilight Manga
About twins named Shugo and Rena who win a character contest and receive chibi versions of the Kite and BlackRose avatar. It then goes on how Shugo tries to return a wandering AI named Xefi. The time span of which this series occurs is unknown.

~3 years after..

.hack//G.U.
A game about a Twin Blade named Haseo meeting a character that looks like Kite. Currently in development and will be released in 2006.

7. F.A.Q.
These are the most frequent questions I could find on the board, and hopefully they'll answer your question.

Q. Is this game online.
A. No. No it is not.

Q. Wouldn't it be cool if .Hack did go online?!
A. There already is a .Hack going online, and is called .Hack//Fragment. .Hack//Fragment is a separate game and is going to be the out in Japan in November 23, 2005.

Q. How come this game is going to cost $60?!
A. As of now, there is no price confirmation for .Hack//G.U. I'm not sure why E.B. games wants $59.99 for it. Know why? They want your cash. They want you to reserve it now so they can get more. Since GU will come out on the PS2, the MSRP will most likely be $49.99

Q. How does a character belong to someone?!
A. Because we claimed it back in the Golden Age. Your fault you weren’t here back then. =P

Q. Can I get a character to belong to me?
A. Not anymore. The Golden Age is over.

Q. Have you seen the <insert random scene> in the G.U. trailer(s)?
A. Yes. In fact, I’ve taken pics of all the hidden scenes in the trailers. It’s in the .hack//Lesson board.

Q. Will I have to play the other .Hack//games to understand this one?
A. Most likely.

8. Ending Note
First off, thanks to the Hunters of Liberation guide. Secondly, thanks all those who contributed, namely Forte_V4 and Kulaguy. Hopefully this guide will serve its main purpose and help you learn more about this game, and end most topics. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to ask/answer questions. Also, someone nominate this topic for a sticky on the Site Suggestions board.

*hiss* The eeeevil Gamefaq G.U. Board *shudders*...the truth is, we don't know much about the actual plot of the game. There is obviously confirmed at least one "Kite", Tri-Edge, but it is unknown if the real Kite, or Shugo appear.

EDIT: Lovely! Some brand-new information has arisen! Rather than study for my Chemistry exam (yay, I'm totally SCREWED tommorow XD) I decided to pick through it.

To make a BREIF list of things:

-.hack//G.U. Part 1 is due out in May in Japan
-.hack//G.U. Part 2 is due out in September in Japan
-.hack//G.U. Part 3 is due out in December in Japan
-.hack//G.U. Part 1 is due out in "Summer" in America
-.hack//Roots has been announced. It is a 26 episode anime involving the //GU characters. It will start broadcast in April. It is a prequel to //GU Part 1.
-.hack//GU Part One will come bundled with a disk, called .hack//G.U. Terminal Disk: THE END OF "The World". Supposedly, it will allow you to unlock cutscenes from .hack//IMOQ through completion of //GU 1-3. However, these cutscenes will be altered to //GU renderings in wide-screen.
-.hack//Cell was mentioned. I think it's a short novel in the //GU magazine.
-This is an example of the animation going to be used in //GU. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ ... uanime.jpg I went through the trouble of crap-editing the watermark out of there because to be frank with you, I hate logos. Credit goes to www.dothackers.net though, because that is the source of the image.
-Scanlations of the first manga are available, but I think the ToS prevents me from mentioning anymore about them.
-While the manga seems to parallel the game, the anime takes place 8 months before the game.
-Something about .hack//GU+ was also mentioned...is Blood+ sparking a trend?

More tommorow when I come back from my horrrible exam XD

EDIT2: Well, I found this image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ ... hack07.jpg It seems to be everything .hack plot-related (then again, I'm not sure card game and radio count ~_~) The green stands for released, and brown for in production. It's a tad bit hard to read that one, so I made my own, with my UBAR 1337 HaX0rZ Paint SKEELZ: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ ... nglish.jpg As you can see, QUITE a lot of //G.U. related products will be coming:

-.hack//G.U.+ (manga; currently chapter 1 is scanlated)
-.hack//CELL (Novel; takes place during games)
-.hack//ROOTS (26 episode anime, 8 months before games)
-.hack//GnU (Manga)
-.hack//4koma (Manga spanning from the games to the middle of //G.U.)
-.hack//XXXX (Manga; probably about .hack//IMOQ)
-.hack//G.U. Online Jack (I have no idea on this one...also, the "Jack" bit might be .hack, or something related, since it was the only word I had trouble making out)
