It's not necessarily "messed up", unless there was already an official translation for the area.

Give two different people the same piece of writing to translate, and I can guarantee you they're not going to be the same once you get them back. You're never going to get an exact or precise tranlsation with Japanese, and Tokyopop and Bandai are two different companies, so natrually things are going to be slightly different ^^;
