what was before the SIGN series?

I need to know what was before the .hack//SIGN series,the title as i cant fid it.

No, the games are AFTER . Before Sign, there is only AI Buster.....

cos i heard that there was a dot hack series before SIGN,my friend told me that there was the story of kite.

The story of Kite is in the four games.

In AI Buster, there is Lycoris.

.hack//SIGN follows Tsukasa rather than Kite.

Kite doesn't even start playing until YOU start playing (he's a newbie). BlackRose only started just a bit before you did.

Kite -couldn't- of had some sort of story before SIGN, since he's never played. His best buddy Orca, however, has played since AI Buster, so it's a possibility your friend made a mix-up.
