He does seem somewhat attached to the staff because when Mimiru offers him what she says is a better one he refuses. Maybe it is just because at that point he isnt really accepting help from anyone. I dont remember what ep. that happened in

Perhaps there's a liking for the skills the staff provides. Each weapon in the game does provide different combat skills.

Elk IIRC also comes into your party with the staff - it's like a starting equipment.

Actually, that is a good idea. [spoiler]During "twilight", people go into a strange coma. The monster seems to induce a minor form of "twilight symptoms"[/spoiler]

I thought that it only caused short term memory loss?

[spoiler]It's stated in episode... 3 or 4. I don't remember. That Ginkan's player was found slumped over his computer terminal, unconscious, and had slight memory loss when he came to.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]That it was said as a rumor, perhaps... but it also wasn't denied as well. note that Subaru was asking him how he was doing when he returned, if memory serves me correctly.[/spoiler]

Yes, you're right. I just saw the sign dvd and watched those episodes again and they pretty much tell you that that's what happened to Ginkan (the whole memory-unconciousness thing)

Also[spoiler]Ginkan falling unconcious is pretty much what started Mimiru and Bear's quest to find the answer behind Tsukasa's situation. In fact Mimiru says that: "It just isn't normal for a person to fall unconcious in real life!" Another thing that points to that happening is what we see at the first episode's end in which you see Ginkan IRL taken away on a stretcher. [/spoiler]

[spoiler]Actually... That wasn't Ginkan at the end of episode 1. That was Tsukasa. If you look at the way the scene is played out, it is exactly the same angles that they showed Tsukasa in at the beginning of episode 1 as well.[/spoiler]
