Could be a SERIOUS problem...
I have been thinking a lot lately and after a quick look at the dothack timeline I actually started worring about it. Deadly Flash. What if some really sick person created that program just to entertain themselves and sent it out the same time as the timeline for Dothack? It is supposed to happen this upcoming month. I am not worried about my own safety but I am worried about the safety of everyone else. Well, their are a lot of sick people who actually WOULD do something like that and I can not stand to see people die or be sad.
"For all the Dreamers out there, our planet's dream isn't over yet."
"Jill, this is for you."
"Jill, this is for you."
Deadly Flash really isn't possible with our current technology... it's not something that could be easily done...
At most you might be able to take out a few people with Epilipsy, but since those kinds of people probably DON'T use computers... it wouldn't make much sense to create something similar to the Deadly Flash.

"Hark he of Fair eyes, I am CRtwenty of the Azure Keyboard!"

Actually it is very possible that a Deadly flash may occur technologically. Its highly doubtful if someone decides to make one and send it out on that date though.
(We have proton code systems and that situation with that Pokemon episode which put many children in the hospital. Well its very possible to kill someone by a deadly flash. The monitor turns into a white color so pure that your eyes couldnt handle it or the monitor couldnt handle it and it explodes in your face which would litterly rip your face apart. If anybody want to feel the pain of a monitor exploding, go wash your hand in the sink and walk over and place your han don the monitor while its running. Continue rubbing the monitor and in probably 4 or 5 minutes you'll be unconditionally amputized.)

Mrgh, while I'm browsing through here...
Technologically impossible at present. If a software program were to modify the actual video card settings to output a strange signal, modern video cards and monitors would simply not show any picture.
It used to be possible to damage a monitor by using incorrect settings, but this is no longer the case as far as I know. The worst thing that could happen to a monitor, old or new, is the same thing that happens with a very upset television: the CRT goes "pop," smokes a bit (which smells very nasty but isn't seriously toxic) and ceases to function.
This is assuming the mob didn't break in and replace your monitor with one rigged to explode, but that's an entirely different issue. ^_^ The only day-to-day safety issue with a monitor or other CRT device: do not remove the cover, as parts inside will hold a dangerous electrical charge even once unplugged.
