Bracelet Fun!

Post by Tsukasa »

I figured I'd post this eventually... With information from what Kite's told me and personal experimenting (I'll tell you right now, if you intend on doing experiments, SAVE FIRST, because trying to toy around with the effects is actually quite dangerous. ^-^;;; Especially if you get your infection ratings in the red.) .... I've gotten a small list of things that can happen, how they happen, etc etc... n.n

First thing. Data Draining repeatedly without fighting in between will do wonders to your infection rating. It took 3-4 DD's to actually put Kite into yellow that way. There's a good reason why Helba said to fight between them to keep your infection level down. Fighting normally is good. Remember this if you want to keep your sanity. Having to deal with fights while you have 4-5 status effects on ya, little HP, and having lost a level is NOT fun.

Keeping your infection level down is GOOD.
You get not only less malfunctions, but if it does malfunction, your results aren't as nasty.

Hint #1. Thanks, Kite for giving me this information.
Even if you're in blue on the infection rating, it's still not a perfect 0% of malfunction... And while in red there's still a 1% chance of you doing a datadrain without malfunction. Afterall, haven't you been told by several people in game 1 that the bracelet is the same power as what got Orca? n.n You're playing with a -very- dangerous toy, people.

Blue is like... 1-24%
Green - 25-49%
Yellow - 50-74% (WARNING will start flashing below the meter)
Red - 75-99% (DANGER will start flashing below the meter)

I don't remember the percentages exactly... I'll bug Kite for exacts and edit them into the post later if I'm wrong.

Not only do your chances increase, like I said, but worse effects come into play. When you're in yellow or above, the effects will not only hit Kite, but the entire party.

Speaking of effects... They are random. However... most of them aren't very good. There's only -one- that's any good. Some of these are:

Random status effects- you'll get speed down, magic attack down, etc etc... These are the normal effects of the DD malfunctions.

Then there are the HP/SP effecting effects. These include:
HP/SP Lost - You lose 'bout 50% of what you have...
HP/SP decreased to 1 - Agh! 'nuff said.
HP/SP returned to full - only good effect that comes from the malfunctions. And it doesn't happen often.

The worst of the normal effects is the follow:
Experience Points Lost - This actually depends on your infection level when this effect comes into play. If you're at blue, it's 200 exp. Green: 400 exp. (From here up, they effect the entire party, as per the rest of the infection effects) Yellow - 800 exp ; Red - 1000 exp. You -will- lose that level too.

The absolute worst of the malfunction effects comes into play only when you're in the red:

System Error - This comes up as a malfunction effect on a small percentage when a datadrain is performed while your infection levels are in the red. This is exactly WHY Helba said 'do not use the datadrain when you're at 100%' in her email. It's because of this. I'm betting, in the same sense, it's exactly what happened when Skeith got Orca... but I'm also betting it has backfired on Kite to leave him to the same fate that poor Yasuhiko has suffered. (I've never actually found this result myself, Kite told me 'bout this one too. I think I might eventually give it another shot and see if I can actually get it. n.n;;)

In other words... Game Over. :p You couldn't save The World. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. n.n;

Other interesting notes about the Data Drain...

The chances of malfunction increase when you're fighting monsters lower level than you. The chances decrease on higher levelled monsters, I believe. (When fighting a group of monsters 4 levels higher than I was, I was at yellow-red, and managed to pull off 7 datadrains consecutively without one failed one.) - This point I'm not so sure of- I still need to experiment on this in particular.

For some reason, I'm also thinking that the chances of malfunction may naturally increase on fields that are infected. I was noticing on some of these fields, my infection level shot up into yellow-red faster than in normal fields. More news on this when I get the chance to work on these tidbits. n.n

Thanks for the info, Tsukasa! :)

Unfortunately, I won't have a chance to test this, since I loaned my copy of Infection to a friend earlier today.

what about the various books you can get, i DDed like a demon so i have 3 of them before i got ..... ::think::.... the first wavemaster in my party... the one that cooks. any way, i just thought they should be mentioned seeing as how you get them by DDing. so even though DDing is dangerous there are rewards too, like items, books and keys

Yes, there are plenty of rewards for datadraining in the game, so it's encouraging you to do a lot, but to not go overboard with it. In order to unlock the books, you have to do a certain # of DD's to gain this special item. Also, enemies will drop rare items if you DD them and are lucky.

Several enemies in the dungeon where you find Skeith will drop the top level rare weapons for each class available. n.n I got the blades for Kite, the weapon for Blackrose, and the weapon for Sanjurou there.
