Liminality in real life?
well i've searched thorugh the internet and i've read that the theory of liminality is real, and there have been papers written on the topic. I dunno if this happened to ne one else, but during the first OVA, when Mai's sleeping and she has that subconcious 'dream' about Aura in the place that looks like Stone Hendge and she says, Sound? Where?, and the A note increases in intensity, i was like spazing when it kept on getting louder. I have this OVA on my computer, and i use those headphones that go into your earholes, so much the worse. Shudder. Like in school we were doing a mike check for the play, and all the feedback was tuned as the note A. Freaky!
Whoa... you've obviously put alot of thought into this...
ummm... what is the theory of liminality??

The Dude is referring not to the word liminality, but to the idea that certain tones can induce unconcious states, which, from what I have been able to gather is theoretically possible. It all goes back to the A note that Mai is heard humming when she wakes up and is referred to throughout the rest of the first Liminality episode, which from what I understand, if it is played during certain mental states can cause unconciousness and seizures.
BTW, Dude, if that is a Big Lebowski reference, right on man!

*nods to Rhyste* That's really close to what I've read, but they're not hitting at it completely.
Liminality is, in fact, barriers. But there's a lot more to it.
Liminality is the habitual process of man to create boundaries within society, time, and whatnot, for a full explanation of it. It's not really just a one sentence definition though, as there's a whole socialogical and psychological aspect to this, seeing that it's a part of understanding what man does by instinct. Here... I found this link a long time ago, and if anyone else is interested in reading it, it's kind of a breakdown on it:
