You know.. when I played this game.. it made me wonder...

Post by Cyral »

I wonder if the events in the game actually happened here... (well, maybe for the coma part) And I wonder how much chaos, it would have to the US...

Well, it probably couldn't happen, yet... the whole reason most of the things in .hack happened were due to the fact that the WNC and Altinet controlled 99.9% of the internet. And that almost everything was connected to the internet in some way or another.

We're not to that level, though I could see it happening by the time .hack takes place (in 2010).

And then you have to think that US probably is over populated by then, since our numbers are increasing, and US is probably a wreck

In only 6 years? I doubt it... unless we suddenly go into another great depression. Or somebody nukes us...

Anyway in the .hack Universe the U.S.A. is still one of the more powerful nations in the world, I believe that the WNC is based in the US

Well... Cyber Terrorism is starting to rise....

And the fact that, yes, America is one of the most powerful countries in the world... but... everywhere in the world, has one major weakness...

The network... like .hack our world is connected in a network, even the computer that I'm using right now is connected to the world.... I wonder if something that happened in .hack.. would happen..

that just made me completely wonder...

we humans rely too much to computers.... even our own lives are dependant on it.. Even the military rely on it...

Hmm, part of this (specifically, Deadly Flash) has been discussed before...see this thread:

http://dothack.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1971

As it is, the Internet is simply too diverse for a particular attack, approach or virus to disable all or even a majority of computers. Computer security is well enough understood that an attack with truly devastating consequences and/or spread would be rapidly researched, and workarounds would be disseminated rapidly.

If all the computers were effected by a huge virus, then all of the REAL world would be in chaos. It would be worse in America I think than it was in Japan. Simply because so many people come here for medicines and our technology. IF all that DOES go, what would we be left with? It would be like the destruction of our age, we WOULD go into another depression. I just hope it wont be in my lifetime.......

That would only really be a danger if every single computer was using the same type of software. Diversity in software will make this type of thing impossible... note what most of the current worms target, Microsoft Outlook. So many people use this program that it makes it an easy target, if there were several popular e-mail programs around these worms would be much less effective, as it is much tougher to write a multiplatform virus or bug.

Well your right, but it could be a combination of little virus's. I remember when these teenagers just a couple of month's ago, put three little virus's on the school computer. It turned into a huge virus, which messed all our grades up. When the school found out who........well lets say that they were in BIG trouble. They got expelled, because the school had to buy a whole new softwhere and everything. It was cool, but in a way bad because we got report cards late. Thats my story ^_^

well, sorry to drudge off-topic, but more of the effects of 'humans relying too much on computers' can kinda be seen in "The Animatrix" *Drudges back on topic* Indeed, i think that the chaos would be more obvious is the US, as like in what happened in the blackout during the 80's. *Drudges slightly off topic again* This also reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode, The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street, or something like that. All the appliances turned off, and when they would start working in someone else's house, the neighborhood would attack them. It kept on changing from house to house, until they destroyed each other. Sorry, but i found it relevant to the topic!

I remember that episode, we had to read the script of it as part of some English project, something about Mob mentality and such.

Yea, we do rely to much on computers... and the animatrix is a good example, if we make our machines to smart they may eventually start to control US.

Well... Altimit and Windows are similar well symbolitical wise.

And plus that, Microsoft owns how many percent from the technology?(Including Internet?) Exactly alot...

Unless by some miracle, a hacker developed a virus putting something that's outside into the inside... (even though I doubt it) and by some miracle Microsoft owns pretty much 99.99% of all of computer software and technology and by a couple of years(when I'm old and dying) they finally developed a software w/ somewhat of the same design as that of Altimit and later declares as the Ultimate OS system, and by some chance a couple of years from now they develop those things in your headsets(that's very likely) and this happened.. that made me wonder.. after a couple of hours.

You might be surprised. Apple has a good 3-5% share of the personal computing market, and as for servers, there's a whole lot that's not Microsoft-based...
