The world of .hack opens us to its interpretation of the potential of Role Playing Games in the foreseeable future of the 21st century, where online interaction, communication and exchange of information has become the norm among people all over the world. Of course as us folks of the 21st century are wont to know…technology isn’t quite without its glitches…

THE (FUTURE) HISTORY:
In 2006, a deadly virus - “Pluto’s kiss”, caused the world’s network system to crash.[Think global technological meltdown] The twilight incident brought the world to a grinding standstill, save for the only OS (operating system) that evaded "Pluto's Kiss" - ALTIMIT , which soon becomes the designated universal basic operating system . Also around this time, the core members of the ALTIMIT developing team depart from the company and establish CyberConnect Corporation. (CC Corporation). In order to revive the flagging online entertainment scene, a Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game, "THE WORLD” [also known as "Fragment."] was launched. Touted as the ultimate online gaming experience, it soon garnered a strong following, which spread across the globe.
And the rest, as they say…is history (well… future, actually).

.HACK//DUSK: THE COMIC BOOK:
The comic book series differs slightly from the anime series as well as the PS2 game with a different cast of protagonist and their adventures in “THE WORLD”. Nevertheless, it manages to hold its own group of captive supporters, so much so that within months of its first volume’s release, it has spawned an anime series of its own! .hack//dusk (the anime series) has just begun airing in Japan as recent as January 2003! Talk about getting up to speed!

Comic Artist. Her latest work is "Kanon & Air Sky" and of course THE WORLD.

Hamazaki Tatsuya's Profile
Author. His most representative work is "TrisMechitosh's Ruins", for which he received the Fourth Kadogawa Sneakers Award. Although both the comic and game version talks about THE WORLD, Shugo in the comic is slightly different from the Hero Kite in the fame. This is one of his few light-hearted stories.

During one of their party's expeditions, Shugo and his teammates run into Zelfi, a stray AI who bears a startling resemblance to the mysterious Aura! As they go about their search for more clues to uncover the "Last Mystery", little do they realise that their every move is being tagged by the "Green Knights" - the game's Debugging team - and that they are threading ever so dangerously close to guarded secrets about the ".hackers", Aura, the bracelet and the "Twilight" incident four years ago, secrets which the CC Corporation will see to that they remain as such ...whatever the cost may be.
