ALTIMIT OS is the operating system used in the .hack series. The desktop environment serves as one of the main settings in the Games Tetralogy.

History

The operating system created by ALTIMIT Co., and was the only OS that avoided the catastrophic damage caused by the Pluto's Kiss virus. In January 2006, the WNC designated ALTIMIT OS as the universal basic operating system for all devices that would connect to the "New Generation Hyper Net," which would replace the vulnerable previous network. Originally an operating system intended to be used by businesses, ALTIMIT OS became available for the general public in the summer of 2006. Around this time, core members of the ALTIMIT developing team split off and established CyberConnect.
In January 2007, the next generation network system using ALTIMIT OS spread across the world, though network use was restricted to governments and businesses. ALTIMIT Co. (headquartered in San Francisco), established local subsidiaries in 12 different locations throughout the planet.
In May 2007, testing of the ALTIMIT network game, "Fragment," began. In October 2007, the WNC makes an official announcement that as of October 31st, nearly 100% of all network servers in the world have been ported to ALTIMIT OS. The game known in beta as "Fragment" was formally announced, and the game now known as "The World" was set to release on the same day the network restrictions would be dropped. In November 2007, reservations for the "The World" and 1 million users log in to place a reservation in the first hour. CC Corporation's total stock value surpasses ALTIMIT Co.
On December 24, 2007, the "Virgin's Kiss" holiday was celebrated. President Alex Coleman announced the "Network Peace Proclamation," the net restrictions were dropped, and millions of users around the world downloaded the Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game called "The World."
As ALTIMIT OS was considered as a perfect system, unable to be infected by any viruses, the Pluto Again event occurred shook consumer confidence and eventually most users eventually turned to the new ALTIMIT MINE OS.
